With my oldest (he's almost 4) we did make a big deal. He got to pick it out and thought he was it (he wanted to be a big boy, like his cousin). In fact, the last time he ever had an accident, I threw away the pair of underwear, just to show him that I was tired of cleaning his nasty messes. It worked. He cried and cried, but never had another problem.

my daughter went potty at 1.5 and then never again til after 2.5 well needless to say i was pretty upset, first child and all figured i was doing something wrong but then once she got closer to 3 she wanted to it and is pretty much all set. during the hard time i tried everything letting her pick the panties making abig deal how everyone will be so proud, being the bully when she resisted saying she must still be a baby, but she did what she felt was comfortable, first time she was actually in control, but i still make her sleep with a pull up had to many nights when woken up to her crying in a wet bed. hope i was helpful

Sure we did !! But remember, it's HIS big day, not yours.

You're happy for HIM.

Some parents make the mistake of letting the kids think that they did Mommy a favor by using the potty. Not a good idea.

We made a big deal out of it. We were so proud of him, and kept telling him he is such a big boy! We are now working on my middle son which seems to be harder to do than my oldest was. LOL

Yes, you have to make a big deal of it. It helps him associate with being a big boy. You really don't want him to revert.

We left them lying around in his room whilst he was still in nappies. He got curious and asked what they were, then wanted to try them on.

It was as easy as that.
