I had my four wisdom teeth out yesterday (the 18th @ 9am). I am still having blood in my mouth all though it is not heavy bleeding. When I rinse with salt water I have seen some very small chunks come out with my saliva. Is it normal to still have blood at this time after my extractions?

Oral surgeons remove 4 wisdom teeth at the time all day, every day, so don't think someone did something wrong. (This is in response to another Answerer.)

As far as the bleeding, a little bleeding at this point is okay. Don't rinse too vigorously, though, until tomorrow. You don't want to rinse out the clots or you'll get a dry socket. Just rinse gently.

Wow! You had a job done on you that no one
would want!

First of all don't panic. We all have a substance
in our body called fibrinogen that makes the blood clot, so you're not going to bleed to death! You can do the following things.

To ease your mind, call your pharmacist at the drugstore. He may offer calming advise or some over the counter meds. Also,
put some dry kleenex tissues in your mouth and try to leave them alone for about two hours, it will be hard, but you can do it! This will also help the clotting factor. Secondly, do not take any pain medicine with aspirin, as it is a blood thinner and you will bleed for a longer time if the
wound does not clot properly. Thirdly, You must remember what area on your body had the surgury. Not everyone has all four wisdom teeth taken out of their mouth at the same time. It's usually two and then two more. You must remember that your mouth is always moist- if it was dry and had a bandage, it would heal a lot faster. That's where the kleenex comes into play. It's like a bandage. I assume you may have to rinse out your mouth with salt every few hours. After rinsing, put in some new kleenex. You could always use a folded paper towel instead. Try to sit upright and sleep with an extra pillow to keep your head above your heart. Be careful what you eat, as not to injure your surgical area. Nothing too hard which requires a lot of chewing. Try lots of soft stuff
like soup, applesause, scrambled eggs, steamed vegetables etc. You should see the blood decreasing somewhat every six hours as your skin heals. Just hang on for the weekend.
On Monday, you can call your dentist for additional information. The surgical area will hurt
for about a week or maybe longer. As time goes by, you'll feel better; just don't violate any of the things above. No peanuts or hard candy or anything else you have to chew, whatsoever.
Good Luck!

If you were going to bleed to death, you would know it by now and you would have already gone to the emergency room.

I think that very little bleeding after having 4 teeth out isn't bad at all. I would keep rinsing with salt water and if it is still bleeding in a day or two, go back to the dentist. (those little chunks are probably clotted blood that you dislodged while rinsing..I wouldn't worry just yet!)

yes that is normal to have some blood since the salt water is to clean the wound it will also agitate the wounds. I would give it 5-7 days and if you STILL have blood then I would call your Dr. Good luck with that I know they are a pain in the ***. Also be careful to not eat to soon those stitches are very delicate. Good Luck! Hope This Helped!

the chunks are probably the clots that have formed where your teeth were... anytime I have had teeth pulled the bleeding stopped within half a day so it should be tapering off... I wouldnt worry too much unless the bleeding gets heavier... and if you are really concerned call your dentist (hopefully they have an answering service)

Yes but they should have done 2 at a time. This way the uppers drain into the lower and increases risk of infection.
Dont rinse too energetically that can prolong bleeding. Too little then infection. Good luck

Be sure to call the dentist and let them know you are bleeding. Now in the mean time take a tea bag ( regular tea) wet it and put it where the teeth were removed and bite down on it. That should stop the bleeding.

I am not sure, but i was told by a dentist that you can place a teeth bag on an tooth hole (after the tooth has been pulled) for 10 minutes and it will help stop the bleeding. You might try this.

Yes, thats normal. It will take a while before it stops, eventually it will. Try not to open your mouth too wide (that was the mistake I kept making) give your mouth chance to heal. You want to open your mouth wide because your jaw feels so stiff. Probably cos they crank it open to remove the teeth. Did you have a "general" to have yours removed or were you awake? I was put out for mine because they thought they might have had problems. I think they are rougher with you when you are asleep.

it is normal - the chunks is blood clotting and that's good. It means you're healing
