I only ever include baked potatoes in a meal if I have the oven on for other uses. Like baking or a stew or a roast. I consider it a gross waste of energy to put an oven on just to bake one or two potatoes. Not only is it bad for the planet, it is an expense I cannot afford any more. My family and I love the crunchy skin of a baked potato, so the microwave version is not an option. I have found that baked potato consumption has gone down since I started making potato skins and potato wedges instead. They save a lot of time and energy. Another example of where "time is money"! LOL!

A small potato will take 2 1/2 to 3 minutes in a microwave. It will take 45 minutes in a conventional oven at 375. Make sure you pierce it before putting it in the oven or it will explode and you will have a real mess to clean up. The potato pulp has incredible sticking power!

A small potato @ 425 degrees, probably 35-45 minutes. I like to rub the outside of the potato with oil, then rub it with a course salt. The outside comes out nice and crisp.

It’s so easy to learn how to prepare a baked potato and you’ll be surprised with the many ways you can cook one. Whether you’re preparing a baked potato for just yourself or for a crowd of hungry guests, try one of these methods to achieve the ultimate in baked potato taste and appearance. Conventional oven method: Pre-heat oven to 450°F. Wash and dry potatoes. With a fork or sharp knife, pierce each potato 2 or 3 times. Place on cookie sheet or baking pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork. Microwave oven method Wash and dry potatoes. With a fork or sharp knife, pierce each potato 2 or 3 times. Place potatoes in a circle on a paper towel, leaving a 1-inch space between each potato. Cook on HIGH for 15 to 20 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork, turning once during cooking and removing any that are done after 15 minutes. Let potatoes stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. As with all these recipes, split and top with your favorites — home made butter, sour cream, chives, cheese, crumbled bacon. Easy slow cooked baked potatoes: Today’s hectic life style and time restraints have resulted in reemergence of the popular mini crockpot and other slower cookers. Here’s a great way to utilize this long time favorite kitchen appliance. Prick potatoes with fork and wrap each potato in foil. Fill dry crockpot with the wrapped potatoes. Cover and cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours. Prick with a fork to check. Be careful when removing the potatoes from the crockpot. Tongs would be helpful!

Walk-a-way from the kitchen.......lol About 50 minutes at 375. Use a toothpick to check if done. If it goes in easily and comes out clean. It's done.
