When you go to add/remove programs you will see on the lefthand side "windows Components"...click on that and then uncheck "windows media layer." That should do it.

Try to turn off media player, if it says that it is used that mean that media player is working.
Go to control panel.
Choose Add or Remove Programs.
On the left colunm, choose Add/Remove Windows Components.
Note that computer may not let you delete it if you are not administrator.

Under the Windows components tab select "clean up".
Unselect the Windows Media Player and hit next and follow directions from there.

try to open it then press file exit and then try to unistall it if it doesnt work try to restart ur pc and exit w media and unistall it and if it says its is used by other thing press crtl=alt+delete then if u see windows media player in the application list press right click and then go to process then press right click and end proccess then ok if u didnt c it on the application list search for it in the process list then end it and unistall
