Would, say, a blackbird from England understand another blackbird from, say, Italy? Or would it be considered a 'foreign language' to it?

(I know blackbirds aren't pets, but this is the closest topic area)

I think I remember something about them "speaking" the same "language", but having what would be similar to regional accents. Will dig through my psych textbooks for more info.

Well when I put my budgies outside for some fresh air, they tweet along with all the garden birds, so assume bird talk is universal...they were having a good old chat with a pigeon the other day.

certain, birds in diverse aspects...even even with the undeniable fact that they'd be a similar species do have a diverse "dialect" and could sound really diverse from position to position. the distinction isn't continuously so glaring that it can be known through the human ear...yet can truthfully be known through the birds.

not in all cases. some birds can be in the same area but "speak" a diferent "language". and there is also some cases where the same birds diferent location that still "understand" each others "languages".

Apparantly not. They have found a sparrow with a 'scottish accent'. Maybe not a sparrow, but some species or other.
