My son's gf (24) is living with us until she moves into the dorm in about 4 weeks. We are getting ready to sell our home and move during that time, but she would like to take in a kitten (10-12 weeks old?) from many that are on the farm we are moving to, to have a companion for awhile. We're sure it would adjust to being inside, but we don't want an inside cat after we move (we have 4 outside cats who occasionally come in). Are the possible consequences dire if this kitten is brought in and then put back with its mom and siblings, who live on the porch outside my sister's home (next to where we will be living)? Does anyone have experience with this situation--it doesn't sound promising to us, but if it could work we hate to deny her the fun of having a kitten to spoil for awhile, since she is without her own home or family.

It's not going to be a problem for the kitten, nor will it be a problem for the cats family that awaits it's return, but It may be a problem for you, at least for a while.

Cat are as different as night and day from each other.

If this particular kitten decides it "likes" it indoors way more better than out, you may end up with a cat who is at your door pretty much every minute of every day wanting to get back in the house.
Or You could end up with a cat that will just plan give up after a while.
Or you could end up with a cat that is beyond ecstatic to be back outdoors.
You just never know. So, if I were you, I'd prepare myself for the worst case scenario.

Yes, oh my, I am sorry but this question sounds pretty selfish, like animals are disposable toys. Take all the kittens to a shelter so they can be spayed and neutered. Please, I do not mean to sound judgmental, but I have worked in shelters and vets and it breaks my heart what they have to go through at the hands of humans.
There are allot of resources out there, this kitten would be better off finding a loving home than played with and thrown back to a world she is no longer accustomed too. And she very well could be rejected by her mother, not know how to survive, and starve.

Also when you have feral cats in an area they will kill birds, and have been known to bring certain birds to the point of extinction. controlling the population of feral cats is not only beneficial to them, but the ecosystem.

No it won't hurt the kitten to go back outdoors after you have had it inside for a while. Most cats like it better outside then they do inside anyways. I had a cat that I never let go outside and finally broke down and let her out now she stays out there. She hates to come in. So no it won't hurt the kitten to put it back outside. It may be more enjoyable for it. It will like being around other cats.

Hope I've helped. :-)

It sounds cruel to me. If you can't provide a safe inside home for any cat. they you should not have a cat!
