If you both like to cook, this is a grea recipie from Julia Child's The Way To Cook. My husband and I have made it several times for a nice romantic dinner without the kids. It's perfect for two people to prepare together.
A fast Saute of Beef for 2
6-8 small white onions about 1" in diameter
1/2 c. chicken stock
A pinch of tarragon or mixed herbs
The potatoes:
3 or 4 medium "boiling" potatoes
A pinch of tarragon or mixed herbs
3 T minced fresh parsley
The mushrooms:
6 - 8 large fresh mushrooms
1 T minced Shallot or scallion
The meat:
2 center-cut beef tenderloin steaks 1-1/2" thick
The sauce:
2 T minced shallots or scallions
1/3 c dry vermouth
1/3 c beef or chicken stock
1/3 c heavy cream
Salt, Pepper, Butter and olive or peanut oil
Drop the onions into boiling water for 1 minute. Drain, shave skin from the tip and rood ends, then slip off the remaining skins. Pierce a cross 1/4" deep in the rood ends, for even cooking. Simmer slowly in the stock, herbs and a little salt until tender - about 20 minutes. Meanwhile continue with rest of items
Peel the potatoes and cut into 3/4" slices, cut the slices inth 3/4" strips and cut the strips into cubes. Dry the potatoes with paper towels. Set a frying pan over high heat. Add 1 T. Butter and 1T Oil. When butter foam has subsided, add the potatoes. Saute without disturbing for 1 mintues. swirl the pan to toss them and leave for another minute to sear them. Season lightly with salt and pepper and continue to saute for about 15 minutes, turning them frequently. When lightly browned and just tender, keep them warm, uncovered over a pan of barely simmering water.
The mushrooms. trim the stems and clean and quarter them, saute for several minutes in hot butter in second frying pan, adding shallots or scallions at the end just as mushrooms are starting to brown.
Trim meat of excess fat and cut into 1-1/2" cubes, dry meat well before sauteeing
Midway point: everything should be cooking at once except the meat. When the mushrooms are done turn them into an oven safe dish and keep warm.
Using the same skillet you cooked the mushrooms in, put over moderately high heat adding a little butter and oil. Add the meat and brown, tossing frequently for several minutes, it will still be rare but will finish cooking later. Scrape the meat into the same dish as the mushrooms.
Spoon all but a tablespoon of fat out of the pan, stir in minced shallots saute for about 30 seconds then add wine, stock. Boil rapidly and let reduce to a syrup before adding cream. Return meat, and mushrooms to the sauce and head through, add drained cooked onions. Taste sauce and correct seasoning.
Toss potatoes over high heat to crisp, adding a tablespoon of butter, the herbs and parsley. Serve the potatoes over the meat.

Make some shrimp or beef or chicken stir fry with veggies { pineapples, celery, tomatoes, potatoes, water chestnuts, etc. } with some boiled egg noodles { any pasta noodles will do }, or rice. For an appetizer, have some dumplings in soup { I always find that delicious } or any soup. For dessert, have some ice cream topped with berries, caramel or chocolate sauce, and a sprig of mint. Hope your dinner goes well!!

Try this recipe. I make it a lot. The most fun is in the eating though. Then you look at each other, smile and say "we made this and ya know it's really good". And anyway, who doesn't like good tacos?
Carne Asada Tacos
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 pounds boneless beef top sirloin, cut into thin bite-size slices
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
crushed red pepper to taste
1 lime
1 (28 ounce) can tomatillos
2 fresh jalapeno peppers, seeded
4 tablespoons canola oil, divided
1 (10.5 ounce) can beef broth
12 (6 inch) corn tortillas
1/2 large onion, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 avocado - peeled, pitted and sliced
1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
1 lemon
DIRECTIONS:
Place sliced meat into a shallow bowl, and season with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper. Squeeze the lime juice over the meat, and turn until evenly coated. Cover, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
In a blender or food processor, combine tomatillo and jalapeno. Puree for 15 to 20 seconds, or until thick. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Carefully pour in tomatillo mixture. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes. Stir in beef broth. Reduce heat, and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, or until mixture coats a spoon. Transfer mixture to a serving dish.
Heat tablespoon oil in a large skillet over high heat. Stir in 1/3 of the beef, and saute for 1 minute. Transfer to serving dish. Repeat with remaining beef. Meanwhile, heat tortillas in the oven or microwave, according to package instructions.
To serve, place two tortillas on top of each other. Add desired amount of meat, spoon over some tomatillo mixture. Top with onions, tomatoes, avocado and cilantro. Garnish with a wedge of lemon, to be squeezed over taco before eating.
Good luck and good eating. And, oh yeah, have fun!

Last weekend my husband and i made hot-pot.Slice up your favorite veggies,We used baby bok-choy,nappa cabbage, shitake mushrooms, leeks.then get your butcher to slice steak wafer thin or you can get it already sliced at most asian markets.Get a big pot of your favorite broth to simmer, then using chop stickks dip the veggies and meat in and swish back and forth for about 15 seconds.Put your cooked food on a big platter.Pour the broth into mugs to sip and eat from the same platter.Serve with staemed rice if desired. We had alot of fun standing together at the stove cooking our dinner in the simmering broth and sharing from the same plate.
Enjoy your evening.P.S.If you want to look up the orgin of this recipe search for Shabu-Shabu.

Put together a big salad, each of you cutting up different things, put on a chicken breast or something on top. A lot of things you can both be doing and it's easy and doesn't take that much time.
