too many people have different points of view to agree on what the bible say.
all God children are different.
with one denomination you have one leader, that is too much power to put in thee hands of one person.
if every body would listen to God in the same way, then all we would need is one denomination.
so do you agree with every minister? or have you only heard one.

I think there's a big point in them.

Different people worship in different ways. They believe in different ways.

Imagine going to a bookstore in which the bookshelves were arranged in no logical sequence, and nothing was labeled. How easy would it be to find what you're looking for? It would be impossible.

Denominations are like labels in a bookstore. You have some basic idea of what you're getting. You know that a Catholic church will have a certain type of service, while the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will have another. A church that belongs to the Southern Baptist Convention will teach something different than the Seventh-Day Adventists down the street. Denominations help us find others who believe similarly to ourselves. Just think of denominations as a big filing system that makes it easier to find others who feel the same way about God that we do.

And of course, there's always the option of starting one's own denomination, or walking away from denominations altogether.

Where is the best place to hid a leaf. sure you have heard that before or a needle in a haystake.
The best place is a forest. So Satan made lots of religions and lots of pagan beliefs and lots of misinterpatations. Wicked men to further their own agenda, made even more of them.
Follow me I am the way! But there is only one true religion.
Can't be two truths. Either you go to hell and suffer forever or you just die and return to dust.
Either you go to heaven in a spirit body and live with other spirit persons in the cosmos somewhere. Maybe a spirit planet who knows whats out there. Or as Jesus said the earth was created as man's home and the meek will inherit the earth.
Of course it will be made into the paradise it was supose to be in the beginning.
Either the earth will burn up and disolve or it will endure forever.
Eccl 1:4; Isa 45:18; Psalms 78:69 Proverbs 2:21 psalms 37:29
those all say the earth will be here forever.
God gave us a book and a mind. No there is not more than one way to serve God. He doesn't like lies or liars.
Devil is a liar and the father of the lie. heb 6:18 Impossible for God to lie. Does your religion lie? Is there a Santa Clause?
Is there an Easter Bunnie? does the bible teach about pregatory?
Or is that something they came up with to get money to pray someone out of? A lot of lies out there? Is your church one of them?

There seems to be some truth in all the answers I've read.

Yes, for some, the point of the different denominations is the power they get. But, please remember that we are speaking of a few individuals here. To the average Christian, the different denominations reflects the different interpretations of scripture and the different practices resulting from those interpretations.

It does appear that denominations produce strife. In fact, that is one of the things tearing the church apart! Paul spoke of this problem in ICorinthians 1:11-15.

"Several people from Chloe's family have already reported to me that you keep arguing with each other. They have said that some of you claim to follow me, while others claim to follow Apollos or Peter or Christ. Has Christ been divided up? Was I nailed to a cross for you? Were you baptized in my name? I thank God that I didn't baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius. Not one of you can say that you were baptized in my name."

Denominations are devisive. Yes, all believers in Jesus are children of God. John 1:1-15 tells us:

"In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was created received its life from him, and his life gave light to everyone. The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out. God sent a man named John, who came to tell about the light and to lead all people to have faith. John wasn't that light. He came only to tell about the light. The true light that shines on everyone was coming into the world. The Word was in the world, but no one knew him, though God had made the world with his Word. He came into his own world, but his own nation did not welcome him. Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God. They were not God's children by nature or because of any human desires. God himself was the one who made them his children. The Word became a human being and lived here with us. We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. From him all the kindness and all the truth of God have come down to us. John spoke about him and shouted, 'This is the one I told you would come! He is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born.'"

What is the point of denominations? To let everyone know just exactly what it is that that particular gathering of Christians believes concerning the various doctrines found in the Bible. But, I leave you with this question. Considering scripture, is this the correct practice?

Denominations are so people can follow their own desires instead of just doing what the Word of God says, like the Word of God says to do it.
See 2 Timothy 4:1-4

The way it should be; "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10) How will you apply this scripture to your life?

(See also the prayer of Jesus in John 17:17-21)

The word of God is sufficeint for Christian doctrine to be complete, (2 Timothy 3:16-17) We don't need to add anything else.

Yes, we are all God's children. Some of His children prefer different styles of worship than others, so they tend to gravitate toward others with similar preferences. We put denominational labels on them so we can find our favorites more easily. Historically, though, the splits really were over major doctrinal issues, not just worship-style preferences. I guess I'm being a little flippant this afternoon.

once, there became a united Christendom with a Catholic (it quite is, common) and Orthodox Church. even with the undeniable fact that, some revolutionaries and malcontents theory that they had more desirable helpful suggestions than those held for over 1000 years and split off from the common church, denominating themselves something diverse. accordingly denominations; they're coterminous with Protestantism.

Because people are diverse. Same reason as there are different schools of thought and differences of opinion in science or psychology or politics.

A Greek Orthodox monk once told me that there are so many denominations because of our "natural" tendency to seek Christ, even outside the Church.

Choose which one suits you then prance around saying you're saved while everyone else is going to hell. What else? Aren't we all God's children? That depends on what denomination you belong to.

So that xtians can even feel superior to one another and war amongst even themselves. I guess it wasn't enough to just bash on all the "non-believers".

Besides you have a bunch of humans interpreting a book written by another bunch of humans. Disagreement is afoot.
