I suggest you see a stylist instead of just doing it yourself at home. That way, you can tell the stylist the effect of red that you want and she can match it almost exactly because she is trained in coloring and getting the right mixture. When you buy boxed dyes you don't know EXACTLY what you're going to end up with because it depends on what color your hair is currently, and it could mix with the dye and you end up with an undesired effect- a different tone or brightness than the color on the box.
If you don't want a tomatoe color, ask the stylist to color your hair auburn with some bronze highlights. This will look relatively natural and reddish.
If you want to go for something really pretty, noticeably red, but more funky and daring- go dark...ask for a deep burgandy color. I've done this to my hair before and it looks great.
A stylist will work with you to find exactly what you want. I suggest you bring in pictures from magazines of hair colors you like to give her a really clear idea of what you are looking for. She will also probably show you her salon's hair color chart and discuss what you like and don't like.
Good luck!

Choose a shade of red that has brown tones in it. Most boxes have these little pictures that will show you what it will look like on your hair (the shade it is now).

Get it professional done, this way you decrease the chances that you will be walking around with some color you don't won't. Professional is just about the only way to go with a red hair color.

I can't think of the name at this moment. There are shampoo and conditioners out there for all hair shades. They have different tints to them. Not permanent but give your hair the pick me up it needs.

You might want to learn how to spell tomato before you try to get your hair to look like one.

for me it depends on the girl. Like I might notice a girl with black hair and also think she is totally hot yet see a girl with blond curly hair that is meh and vice versa.
