I don't know any websites, but here are some good reasons:

1. Even though I'm missing out on the small social aspect, I'm also missing out on all the Drugs, Alcohol, Violence, and Sex.

2. Statistics show that home schooled kids score higher on their SATs than publicly schooled kids.

3. The public schools are forced to cater to the slowest kids in the class, leaving the kids who are ahead, in a total state of bordom.

4. I can work at my own pace.

5. If I fail at something, instead of "Oh well, too bad you didn't get it, time to move on", I can go back and redo it until I understand it and have a grade I am happy with.

6. We can go out and do things together/ we create our own field trips.

7. I won't be restricted to the school limitations and you won't have to worry about when I was supposed to be home/ when you have to pick me up.

8. If you are getting bullied, then tell her this too, and if she responds with "It will make you stronger and perpare you for the real world" then ask her "How many times have you been threatened in the real world? How many times per day do you get beaten up/ teased at work?" All bullying does is affect your self-esteem at a critical stage, which follows you forever.

I hope the reasons help. I love being home schooled and I don't feel a lack of social knowledge. In fact I feel more prepared for the world.

Just tell your mother that you were thinking about homeschooling for whatever reason. Get some books about homeschooling from the library and look at them with her. This conversation will go easier if you have homeschooled friends.

I am in high school and have been homeschooled for going on 9 years. (I attended a private school before hs.) There are all different types of homeschoolers, there are the academic types, the non academic types, conservatives, liberals, and the normal people who homeschool because it is the best thing for their family.

this is to yahooforever: I am so into researching I actually researched the socialization topic several weeks ago and found that home schoolers get more socialization than children in public schools. We as home schoolers get to get out in the world daily and meet many different people from many different cultures and different age groups. Where as children in public schools usually only deal with kids their on age and rarely get out in the world. They are stuck behind a desk for 6 to 8 hours a day and rarely socialize except between classes and at lunch. Hope this helps some on the topic of socialization.

And as for talking to your mom there is several websites out there to answer your questions and hers. Just search using keyword homeschooling.

Go to your public library and take out books on homeschooling. Leave them laying around and even take the initiative to read some on your own.

Check out these websites:

http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/shared/readmore.asp?sNav=nr&id=436
http://www.hslda.org Check in the Research section.

Ultimately you'll have to figure out your mom's specific objections and deal with those.

Do some research. Find out from your state dept. of education how well homeschoolers do on the tests they must take in your state and compare them to the scores of schooled kids.

You don't "go" to homeschool. That's why it is "homeschool". Why do you want to anyway? Just sit her down and explain why you want to, and have good reasons of your own.

See if you can get your hands on a copy of Grace Llewellyn's book, _The Teenage Liberation Handbook_. In it, she has a whole section on convincing your parents including how to respond to their most common concerns.

Best wishes!

You have got to be kidding me! Homeschooled kids dont know how to socialize and how to live in the real world after their homeschooling.
