It seems God has sent a few prophets with messages to show us the way. Has each message sporned each religion. surely Gods message and religion would be the same from the begining. So the only reason to keep sending a message is because the message failed. So God sends the same message again with another prophet and it got lost and then another prophet and they didnt understand it. and then another prophet and they didnt believe him, and then another prophet and they killed him, and God was very upset and made sure the next message would be clear and simple for everyone to understand and that this will be the last message and who ever gets it and follows it they will know the directions to the Kingdom of God. maybe something like that.

First of all, I am going to answer from a Muslim's point of view because I don't know enough about other religions.

In Islam, we believe that there were 124,000 (yes, that is one hundred and twenty four thousand) prohpets sent to mankind starting with Adam being the first one and Mohammad PBUH being the last one. This number actually comes from a hadith. This number is not mentioned in the Quran and in fact, the Quran only mention 25 of them by names and they include:

1.1* Adam آدم
* 1.2 Idris (Enoch) ادريس
* 1.3 Nuh (Noah) نوح
* 1.4 Hud (Eber) هود
* 1.5 Saleh (Shelah) صالح
* 1.6 Ibrahim (Abraham) إبراهيم
* 1.7 Lut (Lot) لوط
* 1.8 Ismail (Ishmael) اسماعيل
* 1.9 Ishaq (Isaac) اسحاق
* 1.10 Yaqub (Jacob) يعقوب
* 1.11 Yusuf (Joseph) يوسف
* 1.12 Ayub (Job) أيوب
* 1.13 Shoaib (Jethro) شعيب
* 1.14 Musa (Moses) موسى
* 1.15 Harun (Aaron) هارون
* 1.16 Dhul-Kifl (most likely Ezekiel) ذو الكفل
* 1.17 Dawood (David) داوود
* 1.18 Sulayman (Solomon) سليمان
* 1.19 Ilyas (Elijah) إلياس
* 1.20 Al-Yasa (Elisha) اليسع
* 1.21 Yunus (Jonah) يونس
* 1.22 Zakariya (Zacharias) زكريا
* 1.23 Yahya (John the Baptist) يحيى
* 1.24 Isa (Jesus) عيسى
* 1.25 Muhammad محمّد

All of these are held in the highest regards with Muhammad PBUH marking the end. Muhammad PBUH is the last chance for mankind and after him only the day of judgement will follow. Prophets were sent to all groups and races and each one had a specific mission to accomplish. Some just delivered the word of God verbally. Only four actually got a complete book. And some were only to be a lookout to make sure that the righteous people do not deviate from the true path. Out of all the groups, ban-i-Israel (Children of Israel) got the most prophets.

As for the religion, we say that they all followed Islam because all of the teaching were similiar to Islam with the basic belief being the existence and uniqueness of God. So when we talk of Islam before Mohammad PBUH, we are just referring to the righteous religion of the day. They really don't get a name until Judaism. So yes, Judaism was the righteous religion until it was corrupted by man and God sent Christ with Bible. Then Christianity was the righteous religion until the Bible was too corrupted by man and then God sent Mohammad PBUH with the Quran. The Quran is the last chance and after this the God will simply end the world.

Prophets have been in all walks of life and some have even existed simultaneously. Usually, there has been a direct line of decendancy among the prophets and in the beginning, there was also a prophet for each generation. For example, Adam was the first one, and then his son was one, and then his grandson was one and then so on. There have been rich and powerful prophets like King Solomon who had a magnificent kingdom and absolute control of the four winds and the genii and then there were prohpets like Jesus Christ who have been mocked and ridiculed even by peasants.

Not everyone suffered their entire lives and some actually held noticeable positions in their society. All prophets are just mere humans and they made mistakes and asked for God's forgiveness and mercy. Jonah, for example, was trapped in the fish as a punishment because he gave up on his people condemned his people before God told him to do so. One of things in common among them include, the power to perform miracles and be constantly tested by God.

How Many Prophets Are There

There have been millions of "prophets" over the years.

Given the fact bible based religions agree on nothing, it is obvious God did not inspire or intervene in the process at any time.

There were and are no genuine prophets or prophecies.

Are have been and are still today many teachers of GOD's way of life. Unfortunately, there are too many quick buck artists on TV that push people away. What religion were, are they? All of them because GOD does not play favorites and there are NO CHOSEN PEOPLE. Most of GOD'S teachers, messengers and healers have been killed,mi lined and ignored. Mostly by the religious elite who wish to maintain their control and easy life styles. The next time you drop something and someone comes alone and picks it up for, you just my have met a messenger. Quiet and helpful with LOVE as their central theme.
Vaya con DIOS

you are absoloutely right and Jesus(pbuh) said i will ask the father to send another comforter and this person will not speak on his own authority, he will only speak what he hears and it will be with you for ever and he will confirm me.
And the prophet Muhammad(saw) only recited(quran) what he he heard off the angel Gabriel(as) and the Quran has never been changed and is still in its entire origional recitation that it was revealed in and it confirms Jesus (pbuh) and all the other prophets. And if you look carefully at all of the books all these prophets, they all submitted to God(Allah) in total obediance, peace.Translate to Arabic means Islam. and they never ever gave him any partners or said that he had a son or was three.

EXACTLY

thats what islam teaches
> Because there is only one human race, there has to be one perfect way assigned by God for the human beings as a way of life. That is Islam which means submission to the will of God. "The Religion in the sight of God is Islam." (Quran 3:19)

Moses said Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord. (Deuteronomy 6:4)
Jesus said Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord. (Mark 12:29)
Muhammad said He is God the one and only. (Quran 112:1)

"Say: we believe in God and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il: Isaac, Jacob and The Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus and the Prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another, among them, and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)."
(Quran, 3:84 & 2:136)

Al-Quran ( 35:24) There is not a nation or a tribe to whom we have not sent a warner or a guide

Quran 13:7 And the Unbelievers say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" But thou art truly a warner, and to every people a guide.

Islam states that Allah sent messengers and prophets throughout the ages with the message of oneness of God, and accountability in the Hereafter. Islam thus makes it an article of faith to believe in all the prophets, starting with Adam, and continuing with Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, John and Jesus, Muhammad amongst many others (may peace be on them all). If any Muslim rejects faith in any of these messengers he ceases to be a Muslim ,

(Qur'an, 3:84)

Quran mentions 25 prophets by name. Beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh said that there were 124,000 messengers sent on the face of the Earth.

The message of the prophets was ONE message:

Quran explain to us this ONE message of all the prophets. >>> "And verily We have sent in every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): Worship Allah (alone) and shun false gods. Then of them were some whom Allah guided, and of them were some upon whom misguidance had just hold. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth)!" Quran 16:36

Prophet Muhammad said that there were atleast 124 000 messengers sent on the face of the earth. the last and final message is the quran
and last prophet is prophet Muhammad pbuh

Al-Qur'an 14:52
Here is a Message for mankind: Let them take warning therefrom, and let them know that He is (no other than) One Allah. let men of understanding take heed.
