I don't know, sorry. I take Fluoxetine (Prosac). I've taken it for a year now. It isn't as scary as people would have you believe. I only take 20mg, which is quite a low dose. It keeps my anxiety levels down and lightens my mood. The only draw back is some indigestion. Apparently the gut utilises serotonine in a slightly different way so it does upset it.
A lot of people take St John's Wort. I can't take it with fluoxetine, as they don't work well together.
I've also been seeing a clinical psychologist. If I were you I'd go to the GP and see what you can get. Unfortunately pscychology waiting lists are long (in the UK).
I've had a lot of help from other organisations, such as penumbra and samh. Reach out you will get help.
Take care ;-)

My therapist told me that excercise and medication are the only two ways to increase your serotonin level. In turn your depression will improve.

You could try 5-HTP or St John's Wart, but not suitable for all, or if not bananas and nuts are good, also yeah milk, yogurt, carbs, anything with omega oils like fish, also plentya water, get some sleep if poss and a little exercise too. mmm sex will increase it or anything pleasurable, avoid booze and coffee, not sure about cheese. Good Luck and remember just do your best and try not to worry too much cos u will improve with time.

go to bed earlier.
its said that people with serotonine defects doesn't sleep enough..thus their brains never reaches the Beta stage and cannot produce this hormone. so ... if you know you have to be up at 6:00 am you have to go to sleep at around 9:45 - 10:15 pm in order to produce it. unfortunately oour bodies can only produce it in the state of complete relaxation/sleep.
Good luck!

exercise laughing and even chocolate.failing that you have the illegal option of ecstasy which i do NOT recommend and will bring you crashing down as quickly as you went up and worse off in the long run, or the legal option of a group of anti depressants called sri's which stands for seratonin reuptake inhibitors.these would need to be prescribed by a doctor.try the natural things first exercise is the best.

Exercise and chocolate does it for me!
I've just started to increase my activity levels because I am going to the sponsered "Swim the Channel" charity swim for ASPIRE. Although I am very unfit and finding the training challenging I am also feeling "good" about myself!
(I'm sure that the hot choc I have afterwards also adds to the pleasure).
