in 9 ball and 8 ball how are ratings scored?

If I remember right then yahoo's pool is traditional 9 ball pool. Well there's two sets of different coloured balls and a 9 ball. Well who ever pots first gets that colour, and then they have to pot all of that colour before going for the 9 ball. We also loose 2 turns if we pocket an oponents ball and if we pocket the black before it's our time then we forfeit the game.
