I have a 5 1/2 year old blue female persian, and her eyes water red constantly. My Maine Coon doesn't do this, and I rarely have to clean gunk from his eyes. What's up with that?

a lot of persians get blocked tearducts because of their flat faces, and especially in a blue one that would strike me as quite common as they are bred more to type than most other persians. carefully wash her eyes out with warm water, but if it really worries you see a vet, there might be an inflammation there.

Is it red as in blood or just sort of a reddish brown color? My Persians do the latter, and sometimes it looks black. I clean her face with a warm damp wash cloth and use tear stain remover under her eyes. If its true red blood, she could have a serious eye or sinus infection and a trip to the vet very soon is a good idea.

My Himalayan and my shaded-silver Persian get this as well as my Maltese pup. It is actually caused by the additive of beet juice to many pet foods. Read the ingredients. I found a supplement called Angel's Glow that I use for my puppy. I am not sure if it can be given to cats or not. Ask your Vet for sure. But it really works; no more rusty red stains.
