One atheist gal I know in Vegas had a gay friend tied to a dialysis machine because of double kidney failure. She gave him one of her kidneys. She said what was point of having two kidneys and watching a friend die. Another I know, a man here in town has put two kids through college who were abandoned by their own father just as they were about to start college. He did just because he thought someone should. Another I know gives away half his salary to children's medical programs and battered women's shelters. Conversely a Christian friend of mine spent two years in charity clinic in a Moslem country where trying to covert someone would mean her death. She obeyed the law and never once tried to convert anyone, but treated the sick until she herself contracted a disease serious enough to force her into hospital for the better part of year. One of the kindest, humblest and wisest people I know is Hindu and barely old enough to be called a man. Helping people is his idea of fun. He's going to be a doctor.
In my experience people are humane or assholes and then find a justification for why they are what they are. I haven't seen anyone genuinely improved by their religion or made worse by a lack of it. At some point in their lives everyone seems to decide whether they take responsibility for the world they are a part of or whether they don't. Some assholes are in church every time the door is open and some saintly people never cross the threshold of a place of worship. It's one of the reasons I'm an agnostic, because if any of these religions were true the believers should be plainly more meritorious in their conduct and non-believers or believers in the wrong religion should be plainly evil, but it simply isn't that way.
St. John wrote that anyone that says they love God but they don't love their brother is a liar. A friend of mine that teaches at a conservative seminary on the West Coast says that anyone that loves his fellow human beings that says they don't love God is a liar too, or at least badly confused.
Whatever you believe, talk is cheap and the Bible says devils believe Jesus is the Christ for all the good that does. But I like something St. James wrote that I think is better teaching than all the Christological dissertations of St. Paul on the nature of Jesus. " Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." If someone tries to help, whether for Jesus or Allah or Buddha, or simply because they feel compassion, and doesn't give in to the temptation to look out for themselves first, last and always, then their dogma about the supernatural or lack thereof doesn't matter to me. I'm on their side, even if I think some of their beliefs are wacky.

Atheists are not baaaad people, they are lost. Were you talking to this girl in the hopes of a relationship? I can understand her not wanting to be with someone who doesn't share her beliefs. How bad would it suck to spend your whole life with someone and then never see them again on the other side?
I don't think that anyone should say all atheists (or all anyone for that matter) is good or bad. There is always going to be an exception.
It's never too late to turn your life to God. Just by doing so doesn't change you from bad to good, but maybe you will be happier, more content.

That is why I hate talking about religion with people. It is one of those subjects where someone gets offended. I am atheist. I am not saying I won't believe someday. I appreciate other people's opinion though. I just hate how a lot of Christians are so hypocritical. Just bc you believe in one thing, don't force it down other's throat. I live a good life. Treat people fairly and with respect. When I die, if I don't believe in God and he comes to me and asks me to accept him, I will. Because I will have then seen him. Just be a good person and live life well, and you shouldn't worry. Why, too, if there is a God, do innocent people get murdered, raped, molested, and children especially? They are supposed to be the closest thing to God. I just don't get the whole thing myself.

Our next door neighbor used to watch our daughter in her daycare. She was getting married and closing down the daycare while my wife took the summer off work. (she had a few months saved up and is required to take a two month sabbatical ever 7 years) She said that her new husband would let her watch one child and she would need the money to get through the summer until he moved in. We paid her $1800 over the summer and the DAY after the last check cleared she called and said she had been doing a lot of soul searching and decided she would not be watching any children.
There are a few atheists in this story, but the next door neighbor is not one of them.
She did not intend to rip us off, Jesus would not have let her she told us. It was all very honest.
I'm sure I just sound awful.

The little Christian girl has more bad information than Kennedy has empty scotch bottles. I am Atheist & I bet I follow the Ten Commandments closer than most people who attend church regularly. I see the Commandments as more of a suggestion but it is a good basis for morality. I am a good person, I raised a good moral family, I am self supporting, I do not indulge in illegal activity, I am tolerant of other peoples beliefs and sexual preferences, I pay more than my fair share of taxes. My one prejudice is stupidly, I can not stand ignorant people without common sense. I am far from perfect but I am evne further from being Bad.

Are they human? I assume yes, so, who are you to judge their spiritual beliefs, or lack thereof? They have emotions, a sense of right and wrong, just like every other human being.
Just because someone doesn't follow or believe what you believe doesn't mean they are a bad person. How many people have been killed in the so-called name of God? Not only the religious wars throughout history, but also the psychos who kill because "God told them to". It is not your place to judge someone on their beliefs.
A "devout" Christian with a warped belief system could just as easily rape your grandma.

OK so whoever told you atheist are bad people are just centered to what she has heard. There are bad/good people in this world and it has nothing to do with creed, race, religious beliefs ,hair color, etc!!! It just matters what kind of mannerism they have if they have bad mannerisms and have hate towards everything they do and say then there likely to not be a very nice person ..if they have good mannerisms and are kind ,helpful people then there going to be good people for this world ...its not that hard to figure out!!!! I'm sorry but this is common sense ..you should show this to that girl it might give her a different perspective on her comments.

Uh, tell this girl that as a Christian, she completely baffles me. I interact with probably more atheists than Christians, and I wish they would find what I have, specifically because I care about them so much. God is the judge of people.

Come on people lets use our brains here! If it was a christain then think about that persons religion, accoring to the "rules", if you will, if you've heard the word and donot follow it thats a sin ect ect so these atheists are people who dont believe any of the word even tho theyve heard it (most neways) so OF COURSE they're goin to think anyone who dosent believe in God is a really bad person.

Here is why athiests are "bad" people; God is not always "good," but God is always "right." This is a basic part of the Christian belief system. By this faulty logic, anyone who defies God is wrong, and therefor bad.
Christians seem to think they are morally superior than non-Christians. Truth be told, most Christians are hypocrits, liars, cheaters, theives, and they obviously don't operate on sound logic. It is also this kind of mindset that has cost millions of lives thru out history, people murdured in the name of God. Just like we are seeing now in the Middle East.
Christians have got it all wrong.
