Well first of all if your child is climbing out of bed it would be wise to try a toddler bed that way they don't hurt themselves. And second of all you should try at about 2 yrs old. It might or might not be hard at first because it's so new. My daughter took a couple of days of coming back in and laying her down a lot. But remember each child is different. And if they are having trouble adjusting to it you may have to put them back in the crib for awhile and then try agian. It was pretty easy for me thankfully, but I've herd some horror stories out there. Hope you don't have any problems like me! :)

When my son just started to walk he also learned to climb out of his crib, that was time to get him a "Big Boy" bed. He actually became very good about going to and staying in bed, he was smart enough to understand that the crib was still an option. We also figured he was safer in a bed seeing how he was climbing out of the crib and was bound to fall eventually. Kids will respond to responsibility better than reward.

In a toddler bed? Well as soon as they are able to get in and get out of the bed without falling off of it. I personally think between the ages of 18 months to 2 years is when they should definetly be getting used to their own bed. If you child is already that age then try and make it fun, or have the child pick out a nite lite that he or she wants or blanket, something that would really make he or she feel that they helped out with the bed and/or room to make them feel as if they should stay there.

I think they are ready when they start trying to climb out of their crib or are already getting out. I have a 16 month old daughter and yesturday morning I woke up to a loud scream because she was about to fall off of her crib. she managed to try to climb out and got scared. So I think that about that time you should start looking into a bed.

When they can climb out of the crib, it's time for a bed.

we gave him his own space just before he reached two. we got him a simpsons dovet set and made a big thing over it. we had a new baby so we waited until he got used to her. perfect timing because it helped him not feel left out. make sure there is nothing else going on at the same time like potty training etc..

yes about 2 years old. You could put them in a toddler bed earlier if you wanted, about 18 mths.
