I know it's expensive and traffic is horrible. The jobs I'm considering are located in the Dulles VA area. What are some places that I can live that are safe, won't cost a kidney, and near public transportation? Does that place even exist?! All help is appreciated.

1. Dulles is quite a ways from Wash., DC really, so the safety issue isn't the same as if you were going to actually be working or living in DC.
2. Because of #1, the public transportation is not as good or as frequent as they would be if you were trying to get downtown DC.
3. Google "Dulles" or one of the nearby communities and look at some of the real estate listings that pop up. Most usually have some type of rental properties. DO NOT PAY them anything for helping you -- the landlords do this for helping get their properties filled up.

They are still talking about bringing the Metro out to Dulles but as of now the public transportation in that area is really bad. You will need to drive or car pool. Herndon, Reston and Chantilly are residential and not bad to get to Dulles from. Everything is expensive though. I work in Chantilly about 6 miles from Dulles Airport.

Arlington is a pretty nice area, so is Alexandria. Both are near the Metro.
