Actually, I have my best luck and I have more desire when I'm stone-cold sober. But I'm single for the first time in fifteen years and I have to meet women someplace. I also live in a new town, work nights, and the only late-night life we have is Wal-Mart and bars.
I'm sure you've been to a Wal-Mart. You see why I prefer bars.
So I generally try to limit myself to one beer an hour. Or I'll drink rum and coke on every third or fourth drink and straight coke on all the rest. It's just too annoying to be in a bar for any length of time totally sober. And since I'm in a new town where nobody knows me, they all seem to suspect that I'm a liquor agent or a nark if I don't drink at all.
When I was younger, I needed alcohol to raise my confidence and lower my inhibitions. I'm pretty well-adjusted now, so, like I said, I have my best luck when I'm stone-cold sober.
Still, a couple of times a year when the mood strikes me, it's fun just to get sh!t-faced.

I used to drink alcohol at any social occasion or family get together - whenever I had an excuse to but after several much deserved hang overs, I made the decision not to have it that much anymore, if not at all.
The only time I drink alcohol now is occasionally before I go to bed (I have wine) when listening to classical music. The reason being that it is a little amount and is a nice treatment for relaxing my mind and helps when having trouble sleeping also.
Alcohol can be enjoyed but must be kept under control and not drank to the excess either.
xx

The only alcohol I drink on a regular basis is real ale, and no more than four in an evening at the most...I drink it because I like the taste and enjoy comparing the flavours of the different hops.
I have wine with meals occassionally if it complements the food.
I don't drink to get drunk, though...I did that too much when I was younger and don't like the after effects!!

Alcohol is not the reason, we drink the bitter tastin drinks as such.
It just happens to be contained in most things we can pick up to buy, differentiating from kiddis sweet drinks alike sodas and pops and water.
Perhaphs i would say it is an adult persons' taste maker for another type of liquid to take other than coffee/teaand juices.
And by the way, i also am thinking of marrying you ,even if u donot resemble ur avatar!!

I drink alcohol when there is nothing else really going on and it keeps me entertained with the traditional "buzz". More confident? No...not for me, I get more concerned that I'll do something hastefully and / or stupid. (Not bad stupid..just stupid like fall asleep too early and not turn on my alarm clock, or say something I'll regret). Or, maybe even go to extremes with emotions or put a lampshade on my head!! LOL. Used to make me more confident in Kaoreoki (spelling?) or more brave when I was younger.....but I only learned that it can start destructive problems.

I used to look forward to goin out gettin smashed every Friday / Saturday for the last few years really, problem is it knocks it out of you for a few days after, you loose interest in things & your concentration suffers.
I decided to change my ways and I can tell you how much better you feel & how you get on with things much better & easier.
I still go out say once a week but cool it right down, admittingly having a better time.
PS/.. prob the worst addictive & destructive past time..though..

I drink alcohol mainly cos i like the taste more than coke or lemonade!
It definetly gives ya more confidence, for example tonight (its 2:42am here in manchester uk) I got talking to and flirting with the girl behind the bar at our local club, i would never have had the confidence to talk to her sober! I guess once i get to know her, that will get easier! Haha!
