Meaning what is the smallest font and size, and still readable.

the fonts only half the problem, check the margin settings
File>>Page set up. i find the default setting allows for a strip of text down the middle of the page and a huge blank boarder all the way around. Fine if your going to punch or bind the pages.
Before you print always look at the Print preview, some times there is only one line on the second page and if you cant squeeze it in to the first page then make the font bigger to balance it up.
oh the font,,,, i prefer Times new roman 12 but 10 would do.
You could also set the printer to print only odds or even page numbers and use the back of the page as well.
Do a few trial runs, its always easier when you have it in your hand to decide

Any font size less than 10 starts to get hard to read.
