I just installed Napster on my computer and I supposedly have free 7-day trial. During this time, as I understand I can download (not just listen onthe Internet) an unlimited amount of music for free (correct me if I got this wrong). The thing is, when I search for music with the software, the only options I have are to buy track, album, and so on, but nothing for free. What's the deal with this whole thing?

There is a difference between buying and downloading songs in Napster. It sounds like you have the Napster plug-in for windows media player. If you right click over the song you can select "download track" or just download the complete Napster program and there is a download button.

First the history.
Napster used to be an illegal service providing free songs until it was (cry, cry) closed in 2001. Than it got overtaken by Microsoft and now is legal.
Its plans are monthly and also per song. It sucks and is unpopular. As some people said Limewire and BitTorrent is better if you want to get sued for using illegal services.
BEWARE!
