I’m thinking of becoming an avian certified vet.
About how many years will it take for me to complete my schooling? What courses will I need to take? any other info you could give me would be great.

About 8 years of schooling, biology, algebra, calculus and trig are some of the courses you will need. I suggest volunteering or working with an avian vet for awhile and see if you think it suits you.

well.. depends on where you are with your schooling. becomeing a vet is about the same amount of years as a general, human doctor. you should know that vets are the lowest paid doctors, compaired to length of school.

so you go to school get your PH.d, THEN you specialize in avians.

I would recomend you work in a vet clinic for awhile to see if it is really something you are interested in. There are alot of behind the scenes BS you have to deal with. and remember, a veterinary clinic is a BUSINESS... one of your biggest headaches will be that aspect of it (collecting money, advertising, hireing/fireing, etc etc etc)
Vet clinics are always hiring receptionist, kennel help, etc.

ALSO, remember that you will be dealing with bad cases on top of the good cases. yes, its great when you save a bird's life... but it really sux when someone brings in a neglected bird they just want to euthanize. Or when someone says, "it's just a bird, im not spending all that money!"... both of which happen, pretty much, on a daily basis.
the moral of the story, work in a clinic while you get your general ed. done.. just to make sure thats what you want to do!

the purely reason i might want to offer up on the widely used vets instead of occurring to the avian professional might want to be if i stumbled on my chicken became bleeding out and that i might want to not get it stopped with packing or cautery. Birds can bleed out in a really little while. to flow to the pro i might want to wrap my infant to shop it warmth and luxurious it with talk as I drove like loopy in the route of the avian vet. A prayer or 2 might want to help also.
