And I am not talking about the "legit" way either. Such as, if an illegal immigrant married a legal citizen, is that illegal immigrant immediately a citizen? Aren't there laws against this type of misuse of the marriage system?

BTW, I am not Mexican. I was born in America to two American citizens. This is regarding someone else.

If you have a baby here YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN!!! Most of you rattle off garbage and are UNINFORMED!!! If you marry a citizen YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN!!!! It doesn't work that way.

An illegal alien can get a green card by marrying a citizen or permanent resident. It's not automatic though. The couple has to apply to immigration and go through an interview where they must prove the marriage is genuine (not entered into in order to obtain PR). The alien is issued a temporary or conditional PR card which expires in 2 years. Prior to the 2nd anniversary the couple must submit more paperwork to obtain a permanent green card. And yes. If a couple does this just so the alien can get the card then it is against the law.

No, you're out of luck on that one ... :) You can marry a legal citizen, who will have to petition you .. which means background checks, medical and financial eligibility ... if you pass the background check, which you won't if you're here illegally, but let's say you managed to wangle through that one, then you'll have to pay for medical, biometrics etc., and your wife/husband will have to show that they have enough income to support you ... if you manage to do all that, and PAY for all that, you will get a conditional green card ... not even a permanent one ... so good luck with that one ... doing it the legal way takes time, and patience ....

If a person entered the U.S. illegally there is NO WAY (not even through marriage to a U.S. citizen) for them to become a U.S. citizen or even get a green card. The person in question would have to return to their country and re-enter the U.S. legally, through a visa. Then marriage to a U.S. citizen would gain them a green card.

If the person in question entered the U.S. legally and just overstayed their visa then they can get a green card through marriage to a U.S. citizen without having to leave the U.S.

To those of you that have answered this question with "go back to Mexico" or variation of it..... It's people like you that make me (a citizen) want to join groups like "LA RAZA"

You all think you have a problem with illegals, well pissing off the "legals" is just asking for trouble, and a "problem" that the US will not be able to handle...... so before you start shooting off offensive BS. Stop and think of what you are about to say, and to whom.

You want to know how an illegal immigrant becomes a legal citizen, except that you exclude from that list the legal methods of becoming a citizen.

Which is like asking how you cross the ocean, excluding all methods of traveling over, under or on the ocean.
