I began lifting barbells at age 15. In the first week, each arm gained an inch in girth. In another couple of months, they gained another inch. I have found the best way to gain it is try like heck to lose it :(
Good luck in either case and eat hardy every meal. If you exercise that will help build muscle and that weighs more that fat so that will help too.

Take in more calories then you burn. Eat more food. Lift weights. Muscles are heavy and lifting weights will give you more muscle and there for more weight.

Go to a nutrition's store and buy the protein shakes or start eating a lot of protein like peanut butter and mac and cheese. but talk to your doctor first. and always exercise,,, do all in moderation also..
