The police do find drug dealers but they have to follow the rules. They can't violate the rights of citizens to be free from illegal search and seizure. So they have to have, probable cause search warrants and all that stuff.

There are 2 sides to crime, the police need the dealers just a much as the dealers need the police. Illegal drugs is a hUGE industry and demand always, without exception, exceeds supply.

The police will usually tolerate 1 dealer in a neighbourhood and quite often this guy is also a police informer. ( he will inform on other dealers) This suits everyone because obviously the dealer doesn't want competition.

I know what you mean.

There are some cities in England where you can be walking down the high street at mid-day and a smackhead will be shouting to his scruffy mates "He'll be there in half an hour, it's a tenner" and somehow I don't think they are talking about ice-cream.

I expect the police could find the dealers if they really wanted to but it isn't much of a priority for them. They probably only deal with it when it gets too obvious or in the "wrong" places, like smart parts of town.

The police CAN find the dealers. And DO.

However, the police require evidence for convictions. The addicts require no evidence to buy the drugs - just the cash!!

"real" dealers, not junkies who sell, and the "addicts", as you call them, have a special relationship. the addicts don't want their dealer to be caught so they don't say anything to anyone but maybe one close close close person they know. they don't know the dealers name, or where they live. its just a meet up, exchange, and everyone goes home to get happy.

yes, cops can find dealers of course if the addict or dealer screws something up in that system i described above, but its not so easy on the cops to find people who are more loyal to the law than the drug so they can get information.

plus, if you mess with a dealer, you or your family can get shot. if you mess with the cops and get caught, you just get some jail time.

what would you go with?

Well the problem is that, for every drug dealer the Police arrest about another 10 can pop up to fill the void. As i once heard, drug dealing to the epitomises capitalism, supply and demand.

Because it's horses for courses in all aspects. Each unto your own. If it ended up being that easy then all the dealers would not be around and there would be no more drug addicts - but then this is the real world isn't it, damn!

good question but half the time the cops are not stupid they no who is who well here were i live they do but i think the drug dealers give them back handers so the cops make money so they leave the dealers alone and just grab the addicts so the cops look like they are doing there jobs

They do. All the time. It's a losing battle. The police attempt to cut off the supply of drugs to the dealers, i.e., smugglers. Watch COPS on TV.

Couple of things here..

Police: "HI, sell me some drugs"
Dealer: "Here ya go"
Police: "Youre under arest"
Layer: "Thats entrapment"
Dealer: "hahahahahaha...."

also its not the dealer to addict dealers that they want to catch, its the ones much further back in the chain
Street dealers are 2 a penny, as soon as you stop one, there are many waiting to take thier place, impoerters and distributors, now they are the main target
