while the cat doesn't see in color, they do notice movement and recognize familiar things which is why cattv (on cable) has become popular. It features things like fish tanks that kitty can watch while you're away so they are entertained and don't behave badly (scratching furniture, for example). There's a version of this for dogs too now!

Some of them do. I babysat some kids who's kitten liked to slap the Sesame Street characters on the TV screen. It's the only show he paid attention to. He ignored the rest.
I had a cat who loved the movie Milo and Otis. She always jumped up next to the TV and watched for a little bit. Then she'd start to feel of the back of the TV to try to find a way in to play with the other cat and dog.

Great question, by the way!
Yes, cats are attracted to the T.V. Especially when you are watching a nature show with bird calls that they've heard.
This is no joke! My youngest cat, Roadie, actually turned on the television in the middle of the night. What channel did he have it on, you may ask? He had it on the Home Shopping Network! I kid you not! He even had the volume cranked up. It woke my dad, and he thought it was me watching T.V. But it was the cat!!!

Cats cant watch TV the way we do. Cats see the pictures on a television as a series of flickering images whereas we see them as a continuous image.

I've had different cats who did that - two kittens right now. I think they just like to watch the movement. As a kid we had a cat who loved to watch basketball on TV - she liked to chase the bouncing ball.

Wow, smart. I wonder if they were really watching or they could be just amazed by the sudden change pictures on the screen. Maybe they're waiting for something to like jump out of it.

They can see 2D. For ultimate entertainment just put a mirror in front of your cat. He'll get spooked, start sniffing, then look behind the mirror. It's hilarious.
