Carry on. My boyfriend wants to bring a book and a magazine. I hear this is not allowed in Europe. Is this allowed in domestic American flights?
1) Magazine or Book
2)Can we bring a purse or backpack?
3) What kind of shoes are they having a problem with?

i just traveled to washington d.c. and back a few weeks ago, and they let me take a carry-on bag with magazines, gum, books, my purse and my ipod with no problems. as far as i know, the only shoes they have a problem with are shoes with metal on them, and even then they just make you take them off, then you walk thru the detector and then you can put them back on.

They have no problems with books or magazines being brought. And you CAN bring a purse or backpack. I'm pretty sure u can bring any type of shoes.

The only things you can't bring are:

1. Makeup
2. Any type of liquid (includes drinks)
3. Any type of gel (includes lotion)
4. Medicine without prescription
5. Other stuff too.

Magazines and books are fine! Purses and backpacks are fine as long as you have no liquids in them! You can however bring lipstick, deodorant or anything similar to that consistancy. Also medications are allowed as long as you have your prescription info on the bottle. Formula for babies is also allowed as long as you are willing to drink some in front of security.
Shoes aren't much of an issue but you will have to take them off to go through security, so I would recommend sandals.
