I have a cavity that is kind of big but it doesn't hurt. I'm really nervous about it, because I'm not sure what kind procedure I'm going to need when I go to the dentist. Does anyone have any idea?

If it doesn't hurt, you will probably only need a filling. Generally if you need a root canal, the cavity has already reached the nerves and IT HURTS!!!!

Get to the dentist ASAP, so you don't have to get a root canal because you waited too long.

If it doesn't hurt, you'll probably just need a filling in it. Generally, they can just do fillings for cavities that don't hurt. If it starts to hurt, then you're in for a root canal and that's no fun, so get to the dentist as soon as you can and hopefully it'll just need a filling.

Root canals dont hurt as long as there is no infections in the tooth,, dont let anyone tell you they hurt. As long as you are numb,, it is no different than getting a filling done. You may just need a filling but dont wait too long,,, if youre nervous, i suggest trying the nitrous happy gas, it will make you relax if youre afraid of needles or find a DDS that can put you to sleep.. good luck ,, im a dental assistant :)

The longer you go the worse it will get. You will need a filling . Get some Nitrous & local & youll be fine. If you contiune to leave it untouched at some point the cavity will go into the nerve & you will need a root canal. Ask your friends & family for a referral. Good luck & it will all be fine.

IF IT'S NOT HURTING THAT MUCH IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THE DECAY HAS GOTTEN TO THE NERVE...THATS THE PAIN !
GO TO A DENTIST.. THEY HAVE SOME PAINLESS WAYS TO HELP YOU THROUGH THE VISIT....
SOUNDS LIKE YOU MAY HAVE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE OR A FRIEND TOLD YOU A HORROR STORY...
DENTIST VISITS CAN BE A LITTLE SCAREY A TIMES , EVERY BODY DREDS THE VISIT...
BUT GOOD NEWS .AFTER YOU GO TO YOUR DENTIST AND HE TAKES CARE OF YOUR CAVITY ,HE'LL PUT YOU ON A REGULAR SCHEDUAL WHERE YOU GET YOUR TEETH CLEANED AND CARED FOR .
REMEMBER TO MAINTAIN A DAILY BRUSHING ROUTINE TOO...
I BET IT'S NOT GONNA BE A BIG DEAL...

The dentist will probably just drill out the decayed portion and fill it.

I think he'll want to remove the outer edges of your tooth, do a root canal and crown it. either that or fill it in which case it's likely it'll deterate until he has to do the root canal and crown.

Probably just a filling... If it's HUGE and never, ever hurt, maybe you will only need a crown.
