How does breeding works? Do cats just.. breed with the first can in heat they see?
Also, what is the gestation time of a cat?

Gestation in a cat is about 63-65 days.
A female cat in heat will encounter as many males as she can. A litter of kittens can have different fathers, because cats are spontaneous ovulators, meaning, they do not ovulate until breeding occurs. No sentiment or romance going on here.
I sincerely hope you're not thinking of breeding cats yourself. The shelters are exploding with unwanted kittens. Even more kittens are born wild and live miserable, short, violent and painful lives. If you are thinking this, forget it. Leave it to professional breeders.

Females can breed with several different males. They aren't picky and the gestation time is 60 to 63 days. But you would be better off having your cat spayed, there are way too many now, why do you want to make more?

you shouldnt breed your cat! there are millions of kitties at the animal shelter that need homes. The last thing this world needs is your inbred-diseased cats!
Instead of trying to make a quick buck, why dont you put your energy into making the world a better place! You can start by finding loving homes for abandoned and neglected animals!

First off cats are induced ovulators.
In other words they are not made pregnant by the first one they are bred by but that breeding makes them ovulate and eggs are produced.
They are impregnated by the second breeding male.
They are pregnant for 63-65 days just like in dogs.

Actually cats are VERY picky abot who they let mate with them. My moms cat has escaped from us a few times while she was in heat and never got pregnant, even though she would show back up with 2 or 3 males in tow.
As well she wont let my male near her while she's in heat. She doesnt like him so she wont let him mate with her.
