sounds like your eeprom or OSD IC has given up the ghost.. does any other menu options work? can you adjust the color or contrast, if not, then you have a badn ic, a local repair shop can fix this for you.

Go to the menu and choose the option that lets you show or hide volume bar.
Other than that turn your volume right down and wait if that does not work try turning it all the way up (Don't annoy the neighbours).

try hitting the display on your remote if you have a sony tv, it always works on my tv, if it doesn't work, then good luck

try the button that says "display" or something similer...that should work
