The only reason most camcorders include a way to hook the device up to a computer is because the recording media used by the camcorder is a type not commonly used by most computers. A way to transfer the files to a computer for editing, changing file formats, creating DVDs for use on anyone's home player, etc... is more necessary on these camcorders.

Your camcorder records to DVD, a media that can be easily removed from the camcorder and dropped in to the DVD player / burner on most computers. If your computer doesn't have a DVD -ROM drive, you may not have purchased the best camcorder for your situation. A DVD drive with burning capabilities would definitely come in handy.

Any editing etc... you would like to do on the computer can be easily accomplished by loading the DVD from the camcorder into the computer and using the appropriate software. I would probably just use reusable DVD-RW media in the camera. Do any editing on the computer and burn to very high quality DVD-R. Don't take chances with cheap media. I have many audio CDs burned on cheap media just a few years ago that are developing problems.

If you edit your question to include exactly what you need to do... or if the camcorder came with any software that may be helpful towards that goal without purchasing more (bet it did)... I may be able to get you started...

The answer that involves installing a capture card on your computer and capturing the analog output from your camcorder is a very overcomplicated way of doing things considering you have a DVD digital camcorder. Time consuming and there would be loss of picture quality. Nobody would ever go this route with a digital camcorder.

Well, I just looked up your model number on Sony.com...

There is no computer conectivity built into your camcorder... to load the video into your computer you'll need to do one of two things...

first, get a video input card for your computer and use that to hook up to the a/v output of the camcorder...

the second, is to take your mini dvd disc, and put it into the computer, then there is software out there to pull the video files into the computer... you can't just copy the files because that wont work...

Sorry I couldn't help more...
