no they don't run as fast...i'm just not sure that's the best pet. of course you're talking to someone who has a phobia of them. lol. i don't think you can show them affection...as they are spiders. i'd think a gerbil or hamster would make you happier. but make sure you can take care of whatever pet you get. possibly a lizard or turtle. turtle's are so cute. :)

For 2 years in college I worked in the Natural Science lab feeding the animals. The tarantulas they had I would pick up and stroke and they seemed to like it. It would put them to sleep. They are more known for their jumping abilities.

"He reminds me of... Paul, my pet tarantula."

The witch from Bugs Bunny.

No dummy... A spider doesn't give a rat's *** if you show it affection or not. It just wants to be fed. That's where the relationship starts and ends. Feed it and it might not bite you?
but that would be more luck than affection.

I have heard that the hairs on the tarantual are coated in a mild poison & that's part of the danger of that spider - I may well be wrong.

But I suggest you check with an expert before stroking it :-)

Good luck !

Spiders don't have the brain to appreciate your affection. Rats/mice, in contrast can and will return some of your affection and can be trained to come when you call.
