To answer the question of the fear of the Lord, it is probably better to define what we mean by fear of the Lord.
Fear of the Lord means reverence or deep respect. When Solomon says in Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge" he means reverence of God's Law and commandments. So respecting the Lord's word is wisdom.
Yes we should be afraid of his judgment on us as sinners (sin is transgression of the law) and fear our punishment. But if we hold the God of the Bible in reverence and love we will uphold his laws and commandments. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge"
Fear as in reverence is used in the Bible 200% (+/-) more than fear as in afraid.

Pr 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Ec 8:12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Ec 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Well I don't know how some don't....I fear God, most definitely, because after I even make the smallest mistake, I know God will forgive me if I ask and repent but I just feel bad, it's harder or me to forgive myself I guess, I don't like to anger God. I try my best to be the best christian I can be and I know God knows that, he knows things because he is God. Everyone, not just christians should fear God, fear doesn't always mean be scared of but respect and honor, and glorify.

Fear of God is a implies respect for God, others including ourselves, everything that has the breath of life and all of God's creation. You reap what you sow! That is fear of God.
Do on to others as you would like others to do unto you!
Fear of god is also the beginning of wisdom (somewhere in the proverbs)
Hence, one that fears God will obey his word.
You are right, and you are wrong at the same time when you say christians dont fear god. Let me explain myself, some people call themselves christians but are not! Many of them, unfortunately. It is a sad reality! Jesus said " let them grow together" "Many will come in my name and I do not know them" (meaning :they are not mine). A lot of christian church leaders are fake christians! And it is getting worse every day!
The bible tells that in the last days there will be many false prophets... People who call themselves christians but are not.
Now they do not fear God, even if they pretend to. They bear no fruit. For the fruit of the spirit (the bible says) is love, patience, kindness, mercy etc.
That about wraps it up!

When you say "fear of God", do you mean fear of God's judgement, or do you mean respect or reverence towards God?
In either case, I suspect many "Christians" lack this because they're Christians in name or tradition only, and don't really place much importance on it.

My best guess would be that the New Testament took that old vengeful god of the Old Testament and cleaned him/her up. Look, venegeful god wasn't such a bad person, he was just misunderstood.
Also, if you're a good Christian you'll get to heaven and God will be good to you. What's to fear?

I have always felt that xtians fear looking bad in front of other people far more than they fear god. You know....being one way on sunday and another the rest of the week, needing to be superior to everyone else...even other xtians that are not of their denomination. However, xtians should fear their god....he's scary.

I do alot of times!!!!! are you kidding...your supposed to fear god...."tremble at his mighty haste" or some verse like that! God is said to be feared but not hated. You can fear someone at times but I think it means that he's showing us his power... like lightning! It's so cool and powerful yet lots of people fear it!!!!!
