There are these devices that when you pull a pin out or push a button, they make an extremely loud and high-pitched noise. Does anyone know what they are called or where someone could buy one?

they're called personal alarms, and should be easily found, by that search phrase, online. radio shack also has them. as an alternative, you might get a safety whistle (these are usually sort of flat rectangles - they haven't the ball that the more commonly known whistle has, so they cannot be overblown, ie, you can blow as hard as you can, into them, and they'll still whistle). unfortunately, i fear neither of these things is going to give you much protection. you might look up the kitty genovese story, to see why. depending on local laws, a stun gun and/or pepper spray might be more help.

why not get a firearm? that is if your state has right to carry. But if it does take the classes, get a weapon right for you and apply for the permit. thats alot better then some stupid little buzzer
