Suicide has become too popular to bother with... it is passe.
Self Mutulation is stupid... just get a tattoo instead and leave something beautiful in the place of a dark angst... The tattoo could serve as a reminder, it could be symbolic as the tattoo emerges the problem goes away...
I had a friend who was a cutter. He was the most beautiful man, a musician, dark and brooding, looked like Jim Morrison. Well after years of drug abuse and cutting, He died of Hep c (and other things) It was a terrible waste of the life of a beautiful and very talented man. I don't suggest it as an outlet. It was a long painful death. Worse than what caused the cutting to begin with...
Depression... It is mostly biochemical and if you get B12 shots and enough protein and carbs and amino acids, it'll clear right up all on its own. With behavior modification

1. suicide occurs when there's high degree of anger, frustration and seemingly no way out. its an ultimate form of saying 'i wont have this' without considering how the death with (negatively) affect others. well generally, if you feel angry with EVERYONE on planet earth, then naturally the person attempting suicide wont care, because s/he feels unloved and not cared for. suicide is an easy way out when someone who is not of a strong constitution to cope with difficulties, feels they WANT OUT. As a Christian for me, it is wrong and the ultimate sin.
2. Self-mutilation, cutting. Some can be attention seeking, when done publicly...When you're angry with yourself, or the pain is so hard to deal with inside that you try to 'divert' the pain and inflict it on the physical body. I know this because this is exactly what happened to me when i was hurt by someone in a 7 year relationship about 8/9 years ago. i refused to eat for several days and i banged my fists against my legs in a painful way, to make the inner pain go away. I did this in private and never told anyone about it, so it was certainly not attention seeking. It almost helped, in a weird way it did cause i stopped to feel the pain on my legs and in so doing, asked myself what the ferk i was doing. it helped me to realize that i was defeated as far as our relationship was concerned, but that i needed to be gentle with myself, and that i needed to love myself if *he* did not love me. i've never done it before or since, and today i'm generally at peace (when faced with something overwhelming) and i can cope better.
3. depression is a necessary part of life, it helps you grow when you go through bad patches, pretty much like an unchiselled diamonds goes through chiselling and refinement, so is depression. too much of it will chisel the diamond into nothingness, and just the right amount is healthy and produces the best you that you can be. its a necessary part on the way to maturity.
Why do you ask these questions? A study? you? God bless...

I think numbers 1 and 2 are a symptom of 3. If you are feeling suicidal, have self harmed, or think you may be depressed, go to your GP, ask for counselling. It can help tremendously.

Let me comment on one...
2. Cutters are attention seeking losers. No one wakes up one morning, or gets so mad they take a razor blade, knife, ect. and decides to slice their skin. In my opinion it's a attention seeking move. Freaking emos!
