Choose the best one by deciding what you want to do, how much you want to learn, how far you want to progress and how much you want to spend.

Go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp and see what they select for you.

Or, choose the one that the salesperson in the store knows and likes. You can get help learning your camera if you buy it from someone who knows what they are talking about.

DO NOT BE IMPRESSED WITH DIGITAL ZOOM!!! Optical zoom is the only thing that really matters, unless you don't care about the final quality of the image. Do any further "zooming" by cropping in your computer, which will do a much better job than most cameras can do.

Check eBay.
A) a photo camera has no digital zoom and
B) on digital cameras the digital zoom screws up the pictures (definition).

Walmart--Kodak-- about $149... Don't forget that for any digital camera you will have to buy the memory card too! ;)
