Suffering and the question of evil in the world are two of the most important questions that man has ever asked. And they are two of the hardest questions to answer. That is if we can answer them at all.

"The Problem of Pain" by C.S Lewis is probably the best book on the subject that I know of. I think his writing might shed light and a new perspective about why there is suffering in the world and why the good seem to suffer more than the wicked.

When God finished creating the world it was 'very good'.
There was no death, no suffering.
God gave Adam and Eve free will. He wanted a relationship of love with them and that can only happen if you have free will to choose to love.
Adam and Eve messed up by disobeying God (sinning), and the punishment (as they had been warned) was death.
We are all desended from Adam and Eve, are 'fallen', cannot help sinning, and are thus under penalty of death.
All death and suffering is a result of that original sin.
Fortunately God loves us so much that he provided the solution to reconcile us to him. Jesus has paid the death penalty for everyone that chooses to accept it, by accepting him as their saviour.
Death and suffering are a temporary intrusion, and the Bible tells us that there will come a time when death and suffering will be removed for ever.

The reason for suffering is no great mystery - it's there in the Bible plain for all to read.

The link below is an excellent treatise on "Why is there death and suffering?".

Maybe we're born to suffer. Hey, isn't that the idea of Original Sin? We're born evil and spend a lifetime trying to make up for something we didn't even do? We didn't start the fire! It was always burning since the world's been turning!

Trust Billy Joel. He's the Piano Man.

Think about this, a deciple once asked jesus why is it that people die unfairly or die of starvation, Jesus then if you see a child dieing of starvation he will come to my magnificent kingdom quicker and will have all he needs, but a person who lives to his 80's will have just as much suffering in that time then the child did in his short lifetime.
