I've been married now for 5 years to my wonderful husband. He is Cambodian, and I am Caucasian. We've had our ups and downs, mainly with raising our children- we have 2. Mainly because of the different cultures that we both grew up in. I was wondering from any of you out there...what have you experienced, good or bad, in your relationships, and anything about your children, also good or bad.

I don't know if this helps but I am the product of an inter-racial marriage. My mother is from UK and Dad from Kashmir.

I think I had a magical upbringing because my parents managed to incorporate both the cultures together without forcing us. At Xmas time - we would have a Xmas tree and full celebrations with roast dinner etc. And depending when Eid fell (Islamic Xmas) we would celebrate that as well. We also incorporated the religious festivities and never once was I forced to choose a religion or culture.

I think it was good. The one thing I would advise though is to not pressure the children to adopt a certian manner. Incorporate them and let them realise that they come from different cultures etc - it certainly made me realise that tolerance of something different was more than acceptable.

I think for this reason - i have loved travelling, meeting new people and most of all understanding other cultures.

There is nothing that stands out in particular which was difficult. I liked the way my parents communicated often discussing what they wanted us to have and learn. But often there will be times when one parents' wishes or desires take spriority and i think it is important that the other parent respects and appreciates their sacrifice.

Apart from that - goodluck

Well I am Half Chinese and half Irish, Cherokee. It was difficult for me to feel accepted by Chinese kids because I don't look Chinese. However I am very grateful to have grown up in a multicultural background because it has made me an opened minded person to other cultures, I like to understand and learn about other cultures. I think it is very important to keep culture alive. When I got married I had the traditional tea ceremony, the door ceremony where the best man "negotiates" with the bride's maids to let the bride out of the house and a Chinese reception red mandarin dress and all. But for my wedding I had a renaissance wedding and everyone who wanted to come to the wedding had to wear ren clothes. It was really cool. My best man dressed as a three musketeer and another wore a kilt.

I am mixed race, but my parents were not from different cultures. My father is black and my mother is white, but in many ways their families and ways of parenting were similar to each other. ALL families have their ups and downs, not just interracial couples. I never thought my parents were different from each other more than any other parents are different than each other. Maybe your kids feel the same way.

Well first of all we decided before we had kids how we would raised them, religions, descipline, rules, and etc. We've had no problems because we work well together.
