It's not really that hard to pass swim qual, if you can swim any at all you can make the basic level needed to pass, I've seen guys freak out because of the surroundings and get pulled from the pool though, just stay calm and keep your head above water.

Boot camp 1960 they just threw you in whether you could swim or not, I seen big guys cry like babies that couldn't swim.
A Marine Female Drill Instructor was just court marshaled for drowning a male recruit.

From former Marine to a recruit. learn to dog paddle and to stay above water is all their interested in but learn to swim well if at all possible

You will be shown how to pass Swim Qual & you will be sent back to the pool until you pass.
