I say absolutely, yes. Any "religion" that tells you if you don't believe what I tell you to believe than you are not going to heaven is a cult.

They believe in shunning the "members" who misbehave. Shouldn't they be deprogrammed?

They say that 144,000 will go to heaven. Then why are they out there trying to convert others? What if I joined and that made them the 144,001? Oh no, I guess your just @#$# out of luck, huh.

They are not a "cult" by definition. They are just another religion. I am one of the "shunned" ones. The term they use is disfellowshipped. If you get to that point you do not want to be a part of their group. If you break certain laws of the bible or the religion and refuse to stop, they will disfellowship you and the members in good standing are not allowed to speak to you.
Thank God I'm out of that crap, spent 15 wasted years of my life.

One characteristic of a cult is that once your a member, you can't simply decide that you don't want to participate anymore. The cult won't let you do that. Of course if you challenge a cult member to prove that they can abruptly stop communicating with the cult any time they want to, their answer will be "why should I? I'm happy the way I am". But if you could convince them to at least drop out of the cult for one month, they would quickly experience being hounded to death day after day with telephone calls and visits from the cult until they agreed to return to the group. Notice that no "normal" group membership like belonging to a country club, for example, would act in the same manor if a member wanted to drop out of the country club membership.

no we are not a cult. a cult worships a mere man, who tells them what to do. we worship Jehovah God and his son Jesus Christ. your own bible tells you that only 144,000 will go to heaven when then are anointed by Jehovah God. the meek shall inherit the earth. read it in Revelation. a cult lives in one state like with Jim Jones or Charles Manson. we live in our own homes in 235 lands, Jehovah God did not make us into robots. a cult is a robot who does what the man tells them to do. we are a worldwide family. we don't celebrate Christmas because Jesus was not born on that day. we do worship Jesus Christ, but without Jehovah God his Father there would be no Jesus Christ. Churches don't do what Jesus commanded them to do at Matthew 28 verses 19 and 20. if we don't want to worship Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, no one says we have to stay a Jehovah Witness, Jehovah wants us to worship him because we love him and want to, so we are not robots and not a cult. churches allow men sleeping with men, woman sleeping with woman and married couples who cheat on each other. Jehovah does not want people like that but many where and changed there ways. we are all sinners and make mistakes and we repent and change. also we are not brainwashed. anyone who wants to can come into the kingdom halls anytime and see what we are all about. the doors are always open, we don't have windows because we would be looking outside instead of listening to the talks but the doors are all open, so visit a kingdom hall. all are welcome to come. www.watchtower.org

I would say that Jehovah Witness is a religious cult - but I do not believe that any "religion" that says you dont get into heaven because you dont believe what the religion is about is a cult though - that would mean then most religions are cults - which is true for the most part.

Jehovah Witness is a religion based off parts of another - Christianity. Same with Mormonism.

Not trying to off any one - but that is what makes me think of "religions" as a cult - when they are based off of another, more old & traditional "religion."

I don't know if I would actually label Jehovah Witness as a cult, but I find it damned odd that any religious group would expect their members NOT to honor Christmas, because of their beliefs (I think they don't believe Jesus was born on Christmas Day, or something like that), they are not allowed to celebrate anything. I mean, c'mon, how do children born in a family of Jehovah Witness feel about never having toys or being allowed to purchase gifts??? That is just plain wrong.

You are being a bit harsh there. They are a Christian sect, not a cult. I agree with you on the second part though. Any monotheistic religion that tells you that you are not worshiping God properly is full of... well you get the point.

JW is no worse than any others on that point. And they don't blow crap up. They just annoy the hell out of you.

Jehovah's Witnesses, like Mormons, are very confused over the person of Jesus Christ. Any "church" that says, if you are not a member of our "denomination", you'll go to hell...that is a good sign to turn around and run. Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses both lead people away from the true Christ.

The problem is that both these "false churches" have additional books, "prophets", odd interpretations of scripture, that sort of thing. That is what has gotten them in trouble, and why they are preaching false gospels.

Call us what you will, there are more than 6.5 million of us world wide who are carrying God's Holy name, and doing what Jesus told us to do.
Most of Christianity isn't.
It doesn't hurt our feelings to be called anything. We are approved by God himself, and careing what others 'think', is not important.
Doing God's will, IS!
Jesus forwarned his followers what was going to happen, and the truth is presant in the actions of others.
Jesus is our reigning King, and Our soverign is Jehovah!
The public is our field of work for teaching the truth. What you do with it is your business. It has been said "The truth hurts"
When you face God in the judgement, you won't contradict him.
Do.......have a nice day. Our concience is clear!

Many Christians even consider them a cult, but it's hard to say. In that they keep retooling their brand of truth via their own publishing company and have close restrictions, I'd say maybe. They have great views on their community, evangellism, and church. My JW friends are admirable and not forced to stay a JW.
