I know it sounds cheesy, but love yourself. Take a good look at all of your traits and pick out the ones that you know are good. Examples should come from your physical as well as non-physical traits. Maybe you have beautiful eyes or a sensationally shaped mouth. Smile more! Maybe you're a sweet person; do things that will put you in the midst of people, like volunteering, where there are similarly nice individuals. Perhaps you do something better than most, like sing or play an instrument or dance or tell jokes. Do it, and frequently, around others. Whatever it is, learn to appreciate it, and play it up. Presto, instant confidence booster!

Sure. here's a couple of things:

1) Sit down and make a list of your positive attributes. If you're too down on yourself to come up with any, ask your friends or parents what they think. Once you've got your list, take a few extra minutes every morning and repeat them to yourself in the mirror. It will feel funny the first couple of times you do it, but you'll get used to it.

2) Conciously smile more. Research shows that you can improve your mood simply by holding a smile for a solid minute. And a better mood will help you gain confidence.

3) Eat healthily. Note I am not talking about a diet, or cutting portions. Just eat real, whole foods, lots of fresh fruits and veggies....drop the fast food and eat only occasional sweets. Once you start getting all that chemical-laced garbage out of your system, your general well being will improve, and that will give you a more positive outlook.

4) Take a course or read a book on public speaking (they may even offer this at your local library, or you can take it as a continuing education course at your local college or university--that will cost a few $$, but not as much as you might think). Practice it. There is a direct correlation between developing speaking skills and boosting confidence.

There are just a few ideas that might not ordinarily pop in your head, but they all will help.

Working out everyday is good for your mind and body. Also, if there is negative stuff in your life ( like a boyfriend that doesn't respect you, cheats on you, or is always busting you down ) get rid of it. Set q few easy goals first. After accomplishing them, set a few more. Don't fall into the trap that most overweight women do - they think that doing their hair, nails, toes, eyebrow shaping and buying things will make them more attractive, and really, they are lying to themselves. STOP EATING THE BAD FOOD. Also, if you should and can attend classes at a junior college and that helped me tremendously. I learned a lot of stuff ( a new foreign language and World History ) , met some cool people, and had a great time. It was also very cheap. Anyway, good luck! If you find yourself sitting on your butt though then you need to get up to keep from it becoming a habit.

It is totally about attitude. You have to turn negative into positive. If you can't afford new clothes, check out you local thrift store for a special something that makes you feel like a million bucks! Or even a cute haircut, you can go to a local discount place like Fantastic Sam's or Great Clips and get a great cut and style for under $20.

Also do affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that you say to yourself. For example "I am smart and wise" "I am strong and beautiful" Whatever area you feel weak in, affirm to yourself the opposite, soon it will be the truth.

Exercise. Get out for a walk. Even if it is drizzling, you can refresh your skin, clear your mind and reflect on life with a great walk.

Talk to a friend. My friends get together at one another's house for ice cream. It's cheap, but fun to enjoy the conversation and a treat with people that you care about.

Find a way to volunteer and help others with something you are good at. If you're good with kids, make it Boys and Girls Club, or if you're good with animals, volunteer at the Humane Society. You will gain a real sense of satisfaction, which will boost your confidence. (And you might just lose a pound or two running after kids or walking dogs!) Good luck!

It sounds silly I know, but actually try talking to yourself in mirror. You can see how your eyes, smile, etc. change when you talk. Also, check out your local community or rec center and see if they have some free course open in public speaking, etc. You may also consider volunteering for an organization; those folks needing help would surely appreciate your efforts. Also, never be afraid to smile. The one smile you offer a person may be the only one they see that day.

Hang out with people who have less confidence than you, maybe in a support group. Whenever you talk to anyone, look 'em in the eye. Do not stare at your shoes and mumble.
