A rosary is a string of beads that are used to pray. The rosary consists of a crucifix at the beginning, a bead (separated from the others by a little space) used to say the Our Father, then three smaller beads to say 3 Hail Mary's, then another bead used to pray the "Glory Be" and then there is normally a medal of Our Blessed Mother which is the joining point for the circle of beads to follow. They are set up as 1 bead (Our Father) and then 10 smaller beads (Hail Mary's) and this is called a decade. There are 5 decades on each rosary and each decade is prayed in meditation of the events of Christ's life. There are 5 Sorrowful Mysteries: The agony in the Garden, THe Scourging at the Pillar, The crowning with Thorns, the carrying of the Cross, and the Crucifixation. Then there are other Mysteries of the Rosary that are called the Joyful Mysteries (the annunciation), the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, and the Finding of Jesus in the Temple (when he disappeared from His parents on the trip to Jerusalem when he was 12 yrs old). Then there are the Luminous Mysteries which are the "Baptism of Jesus", the "Wedding Feast of Cana", the "Proclamation of the Kingdom", the Transfiguration, and the "Institution of the Holy Eucharist. Than there are 5 Glorious Mysteries which are the Resurrection of Jesus, His Ascension into Heaven, the Decent of the Holy Spirit, the Assumption of His Blessed Mother into Heaven, and the Crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven. So there are 20 Mysteries and each day one group of Mysteries is prayed for instance on Friday we would pray the "Sorrowful Mysteries", on Sunday, the Glorious Mysteries, on Monday the Joyful Mysteries and Tuesday again the Sorrowful Mysteries. So the Rosary is a meditation on all the events of Jesus Life and some pray the entire 20 decades each day (each of the mysteries). Hope this helps without confusing you.

A rosary is a string of prayer beads that Catholics use.
Here are some sites with instructions on how to pray the rosary:

http://www.medjugorje.org/rosary.htm
You don't need a rosary to pray, you can pray straight to God.

It is a string of beads used to count the prayers and to keep the hands occupied while you focus on the mysteries included. Here is a link explaining further.

A stupid, meaningless, useless trinket. Maybe could be used as fishing lures?
