Macaws can be worse then a spoild 2 year old. Training takes time, but you first have to build a trust relationship with him. Without trust you will get no where. If his biting or snapping at you makes you react with fear then he is going to continue to do that. Once you have built a trust with him then he needs to learn who the boss is. He can not have the upper wing. It takes time and patience. One of the best ways to training your bird is though food. Use what ever his favorite is and offer it to him when he has done something correct that you have taught him.
When he is bad teach him about "time out". My Parrots have all learned when they hear the word "time out" they will look around to see who is getting into trouble. I will place the trouble maker in a cage for about 15 minutes and will not look nor speak to the bird.
Since your Pet bird can tell your moods by the tone of your voice, they want their owner to be pleased with them, but acting out and biting is a sign of them wanting to be the boss. And as long as they get away with it they will continue to bite and be bossey.

I specialize in Parrot behavior and training. If you would like to contact me to help you out more I can give you more training tips.

Macaws are very intelligent birds. I take it you are not the first owner? If you are the person feeding and changing the water everyday, then talk to it in a calm voice. Just like with people, it takes a while to get to know one another. He/she will become accustomed to you. I have actually learned to mimic a few of the macaw sounds and she responds well to them. In fact I have tried it on a few other macaws and they responded well to it too.

Most birds will nip to get their point across. It takes patience and training to break that habit. Keep in mind, they have no hands so they utilize their beaks for a lot of things.

There are many sites and books to train you on how to handle your macaw. And I noted one of your responders should be an excellent source of information.

I have a blue and gold Macaw that I just love. She is so smart, and definitely a "mommy's girl". But even she will occasionally nip at me. But she knows a certain sound that I make means "no". She also knows what "stop" means. She is four years old and talks a blue streak.

Believe it or not, you can actually be training the bird to bite by reacting to it. They will keep doing whatever it is that gets them what they want.

Once you win the birds trust, things will become a little easier between the two of you. I don't think people give enough credit to the intelligence of birds. All of mine always amaze me with new things they learn!

Just like you need to gain trust in your bird you are also learning to trust your bird. Your bird will trust you as you learn to trust him. It may take many months of you putting up with this type of behavior before your bird will show any kind of trust in you. I personally dont keep such large birds but I have quakers and they are enough to learn to trust because they hurt when they do bite. Just be patient, trust worhty and very slow. Also move slowly around your bird and make kissing noises licking your lips, all signs of how birds comunicate with each other.
