How bad were the cemeteries hit in New Orleans by Katrina? Are there still tours of the area? I want to travel around the Halloween season, any interesting places related to ghosts, etc.? I like to take pictures of so called "haunted" places, cemeteries especially any good stories and locations, in the New Orleans area?

I was in New Orleans in April and can tell you that the tourist areas of the city are in pretty good shape. You'll have a terrific time when you go.

The Times-Picayune's web site has an entire page dedicated to Haunted New Orleans: http://www.nola.com/haunted/

As for tours, I always recommend Robert Florence's company, Historic New Orleans Walking Tours. I've taken many tours with him over the years and have never been disappointed. He's a great storyteller who manages to be fascinating without all the sensationalistic and corny junk of other tour companies on whom I've squandered money in the past. He's also written two very well-received books on New Orleans cemeteries. He does haunted tours, cemetery/voodoo tours and historical-architectural tours. http://www.tourneworleans.com/contact_set.html

The first answerer is incorrect. Some parts of New Orleans were not hit as bad as others so it makes sense that they are nearly back to normal. They have made a lot of progress but there is still a long ways to go.
Do not go to a cemetary alone. It is not and has never been safe and the cemetaries are popular so the thugs hand out there and will rob you. Always go as a group. There are organized tours and you can easily find them in the quarter. Go to New Orleans Online and request a city guide. It will have tour info for you.

The state is still in total disarray. They worked on the downtown area, and the rich, the rest is still recked. From what my son said it will take YEARS before they are even 1/2 the way rebuilt.
