my cats are 4 years old, brother and sister, and the female one follows me EVERYWHERE and always has. when i'm in the toilet and the bath she shoves the door to get in. even when i got locked out and slept in the car she came in the sunroof and miawed at me despite really hating the car. when she was a kitten she was the runt and very weak and i used to carry her round with me for warmth and hand feed her to keep her alive - so am i to blame for her clingyness? she's ok if i go to work, she'll just sleep or go in the garden, so i can leave her when necessary.

the boy cat just bimbles round outside and comes in to eat and cuddle so its obviously not genetic

How lucky you are for this cat has chosen to love you-my cat does the same thing- she bonded with you when you cared for her and cats are sociable loving creatures. When I don't wish my cat on my lap I'll give her a pat and tell her need alone time and she curls up in my vicinity but stops attempting to get into my lap.Just like humans animals have different personalities and your girl kitty is just more loving, affectionate giving and needing than the boy cat. I don't try to change my cat , as if that were even possible but enjoy her and am glad this little creature picked me to love.

it's probably like you said...you gave her special attention at a time when she needed it (when she was young)...one of my cats is like that. When we first got her, she was very scared and I made sure not to leave her alone for long and was always the one to feed her, etc, so now I am her favorite person in the family and the one she is the least scared of.....my other cats are both indoor cats and follow me everywhere too...they just like to be with you! It's not weird....I think she just loves you is all

Your mummy and the cat is your kitten and loves being with mummy and needs you to be there and a clingy cat is good.

Keeps you company.

The fact it was a runt reinforced that. it feels secure and happy in your compnay and wants to share affection and show you it loves you too. Like the others mentioned above.

It could be sick and wants help as mum.

Other then that appreciate you have someoen who likes you so much

Ur cat loves u. Think about it as, u are the leader of the pack, ur cat looks to u for guidence, mine does the same thing, I even have to lock the bathroom door when I shower otherwise he'll be in there with me! I'm the mama cat, so he is one of my pack, he loves me so much, I remember when I got sick and was in the hospital my cat slept in my bed on my pilow & cried all night, they get really attached!!

Your cat sees you as the mother cat, and as such sees you as protection, safety and a source of food! She will most probably grow out of it and go her own way and another wee while. I know it can get tiresome, especially if shes wanting tickles round the clock like mine. I find it cute the fact she's so affectionate, my cat cuddles up next to me in bed.

thats really cute, i have three cats and one of them will follow me evrywhere, he even followed to the shops ( about 2 miles down the road and then just sat outside the shops waiting for me) and he too is the lowest in the rung, he lost his brother last year and is even more clingy but i love him all the more for it, the other two are not really bothered about me i think, as long as there is food to be had and water in the bowl

She thinks your her mother and she likes the close relationship and she knows that you've always taken care of you. She thinks your her best friend.. You should be happy that you have a good kitty like that. My cat Bugsy does the same thing sometimes also.. They just eenjoy your company and love you.. :)

nothing wrong with it unless it gets to you of course. both my cats are the same i find it amusing when they wait for me while i am in the shower or loo. they just love you, you are there mummy, you feed them, comfort them and clean up their litter tray (if they have 1) i really would not worry.

I think you would be to blame because once it gets attracted to you, theres really no stopping it. but don't blame yourself, having a cat follow you means it likes you.But maybe a little too much!
(lol)
