Keep the split ends trimmed off or they will split further up your hair. Get a natural brisle brush and brush the oil from the top of your head down into the ends. You natural oil is better than any products. This is one of the reason's people in the past would brush their hair 100 strokes each night in the old days before all the fancy hair products came out. So, get your split ends trimmed and then try brushing 100 strokes per night for a while and see if that helps your hair. If it works, then you have a free way of making your hair healthier, if not it didn't cost you anything but a little time.

Oh, I have long hair too. This does help. Also, I don't wash my hair everyday or it gets too dry. And, I let it air dry whenever possible so I don't damage it with a hairdryer.

The only way to get rid of split end is to cut them off..that is it--however people think that means cutting off inches to your hair, and that is not true. Try getting a normalizing shampoo for your hairs different portions (dry/oily)

To get rid of split ends without cutting your actual hair.

Take a section of your hair and twist it til its tight....all of the ends that are broken and split will stick out and you just get them snipped off.
It takes hours! When I was in cosmo school we had this guy that would come in once a month with hair down his back and ask for split end removal...we dreaded getting him as a client, cause it took so long. But it works and its worth it if you don't wanna cut off your long, dark hair.

Well, I'm pretty sure the only way to get rid of split ends is to have them cut off. I know there are shampoos and conditioners and things out there that's supposed to repair them, but I don't think they work.

Now, you may not be able to repair them, but you can help prevent them the next time. I've heard that it's best to wash your hair at night instead of in the morning. An oil that's good for your hair is released during the night, and if you wash your hair in the morning, you're just washing that good oil right away. Dove makes shampoos and conditioners that are supposed to keep in that oil. When I first started using it, my hair looked great, but right now I'm probably experiencing a lack of protein, so it doesn't look so hot.

Also try to avoid things that dry out your hair. Basically try to avoid using things that apply heat to your hair. Also, drink plenty of water. Try your best to get the required amount. If your body is good and hydrated, then things like your hair and skin won't be as dry. Another plus, it'll be good for your kidneys. :)

So yeah, go get your hair trimmed. :) Oh, and since I've been using Dove, I haven't noticed any split ends, so maybe it's doing me more good than I think. :)

Edit: To the person who said to use that Aussie Shampoo, I do not like it. I tried it myself because I have oily roots and dry ends. It causes you to have buildup in your hair. Makes your hair hard to manage. :)

when you wash your hair shampoo it only at the top and when you wash it out and will clean the bottom. or just get witch hazel and dab it on the roots of your hair when you dont wash it.then get a conditioner for dry hair and only put it on the ends and the middle keeping it away from the roots . you have to cut those split ends off and get a leave in conditioner that is mean to keep away split ends.

Aussie has a shampoo made for oily roots and dry, split ends. I forget what it's called, but it's obvious by looking at the bottle. I reccomend that. I used it and it worked very well. But also get a trim.

Try this stuff called miracle mist made by V05.....I have long hair and it has helped me over the past year....I have had no breakage or split ends. Just make sure you spray and soak the ends of your hair real good, but not all over. Miracle mist comes in a red bottle with a gray nozzle. You can get it just about anywhere.

Get a haircut or trim. If you don't want split ends you have to cut. You can't continue to keep them or it will split all the way to the top and you will be bald.

Get a trim. If you have no time for that...

Take a dime-sized dollop of deep conditioner, smooth it into your hair (concentrating on your ends), and voila. Split ends are disguised.

I bet your hair looks great anyways! :-)
