You are going to have to find some more information. You will need to know the state of Mexico where you were born, as well as the city. There are services which will perform the search for but they can be quite costly. Most Mexican birth certificates are issued by a registrar. If you have the information of where you were born, then the search becomes easier.

Hmmm... sounds like that could be a bit difficult to locate. My best guess is to find the name of the county where your stepdad brought you into California. Go to that county's "County Clerk" office and see if you can get one. Are you technically an American citizen who was born in Mexico or originally a Mexican citizen? If you are originally an American citizen you should be able to get your birth certificate in the county where your parents had a residence. Othewise, if you are originally a Mexican citizen, you will probably have to go to a government office of the Mexican province where you were born.

If you are over 18, you can contact the area you were born in, and request the info. Most of the time, this requires a credit card for over the phone.
If you are saying you do not know where you were born, I would ask Grandma or something. Someone has to know, and if no one does...maybe mom is hiding something.
Good luck, Hon!

Why not try the Mexican Consulate and see what they recommend or if they can even assist you? http://www.mexonline.com/consulate.htm
