Check on the Internet.
You'll find reviews to pick what people have found to be the best (opinions of course)
Personally I would buy neither a plasma (burns in images that stay on too long) nor LCD (have that problem, plus can lose pixels that are black from then on).
I would strictly go for a DLP. The picture quality on those is almost beyond belief and they don't have the previous problems.
Biggest con at this time is, the light bulb supplying the light. Only has a 2,000 hour life expectancy and costs a bundle ($200 to $300.)
But the DLPs should soon be coming out with laser light which will last for as long as the set is operational, and uses less power for more brightness.
My choice would be a 1080P

I have been reading on a HDTV magazine more than for a year. If u trust the magazine. The "Best" plasma should be either Panasonic's or Pioneer's. They always ranked top in the Plasma league. Panasonic's plasma always have unbeatable black levels, whereas Pioneer always produce excellent sharpness. Both are good at different aspect, it's really hard to decide which is the best. Have a Panasonic 600 series which supports 1080p with a built-in MP4 recorder if u wish to save money on a dvd-recorder.

the best plasma tv is a sony and the price goes by size but it will be about 2500 for a 50 inch tv. But they burn out and will only last for a few years. An LCD tv will last longer and is about the same price

Someone told me that a plasma TV will only last for 7 years or so. I don't know how true that is but I will be most interested in the answers you receive as I am planning to buy a new TV soon. Thanks for asking a good question!!
