I am tired of uneducated people saying that homeschoolers are behind academically and socially.
I know a few kids that have homeschooled and they are great kids.
I also know a ton of kids in school that are failing in school, doing drugs/drinking, getting in to all kinds of trouble and yes those that are socially retarded.

I would just like to here from parents or homeschoolers present or past would like to share. Thanks

My wife has homeschooled my step son since 1st grade (he's 10 y.o. now, and entering the 5th grade) He went to public school Kindergarten and hated it. He's the most popular kid in the neighborhood, other kids are always coming over to play w/ him.

ANYWAY...

About 2 years ago, for a writing assignment he wanted to make up the rules to a board game. My wife read the assignment and thought the concept was pretty good. From that we created the game, "Medieval Alliance" and have had it produced.

How many public school kids would ever have seen a fun writing assignment actually go all the way through production?

I know that people who don't understand homeschool thinks it's bad. And there are people who abuse the homeschool 'system' and leave kids alone or don't even teach them at all.
My 7 yr old girl went to public school from K-2. She was having learning problems and school knew it, but they would never help her. The administrators fought with me constantly.
Just to let you know, many parents all over the country are taking their kids out of school for this very reason. Schools do NOT teach children who need it the most!
So, within the very first week of homeschool, she improved trememdously. I was able to teach her in the way she learns the best, using her learning strengths. Schools do not do this.
They put all children in one box, teach them all the same way. And if a child does not learn in this way and has trouble, the school labels them as 'sorry' and not trying.
They do this because they don't want to admit the truth which is the child has learning problems. And so they don't have to help them.
Anyway, my child has been flourishing in homeschool and doing so much better than I ever could imagine.

My kids are still so young. I suppose one 'achievement' has been that my 9yo dd is reading books a year or two above her grade level and has been participating in a summer program with schooled kids and the supervisors think she's just great.

Of other kids I know, one is now 16, I think and is close to graduating, even though he's only supposed to be going into grade 11 in September. He's the greatest teen you'd ever meet and great with kids of all ages. He's even able to get the shyest kids to get themselves involved in activities.

I know another teen who was pulled out when she was in elementary school because of being bullied and she just was not getting the help she needed in school for her academic work and was about 2-3 years behind in her reading and writing. She just finished grade 9 and received an excellence on a standardized writing test she did and had slightly above grade level for reading. Had she stayed in school, they would have actually put her in a program for kids with learning disabilities for her junior high years.

OK just a proud parent here but here we go. My son a 3 yr. homeschoolers is a excellent multiplier /divider and my baby girl reads so good at 6 yr. old she could amaze anyone, They will never see public school and we really enjoy each other. I feel like I really know my children and wish I could have saved my oldest the influences of others but It's too late now. She is on her own living and finding out the hard way about life. I dont know about your neighborhood but with the need for schools to have clear schoolbags so you can see their weapons and metal detectors at the front doors and police presence regular at schools I feel safe and confident what I'm doing for my children

I previously got a high score on my ACT the first time trying and now qualify for a full scholarship to the college of my choice. and all because I'm homeschooled and have a wonderful teacher.

: )
