I'm having a buffet style dinner,so I'm not hiring a bartender,I wanted to just buy different types of alcohol and let my guest serve themselves.

I'd get a handle of vodka, and handle of rum, and a case of beer. Then have soft drinks (at least coke, diet, and sprite/ginger ale), orange juice, and cranberry juice to mix with it.

Have a great wedding!

If you are having your wedding on Private property, you may want to ask the hosts what they would allow. Too much hard alcohol brings problems, but if you want to grab some Brandy, a keg of beer, some wines and Champagne, that woud be ok. If you are having your reception in a hall, you should check with them. they may have certain vendors who HAVE to cater the alcohol.

Either way, I am all for serving punches and juice for a reception. No porblem if you serve alcohol, but it is not mandatory...

Go with the easy ones then (They can't really complain that it is a limited bar since they aren't paying for it.).

Wine
Beer (Go bottles, don't do a keg. That was college.)
(and maybe, a champange or sparkling wine toast)

You don't want your guests to have to mix their own drinks. That would be tacky and messy.

I'm from Washington and its illegal to drink in a public place here. When I got married I was 6 months pregnant. To me, if I hadn't been pregnant I would allow NO alcohol anyway. Do you really want a bunch of drunken people at your wedding making fools of themselves and you? Punch is good! Sparkling Cider to toast!

At my wedding we had two huge bowls of punch, one spiked and the other virgin. One sign read "for those who do" and the other, "for those who don't," so people knew which was which. Everyone was happy.

Go here for some great punch recipes:

I would always suggest alcohol that doesn't break the bank, vodka, rum, gin, you can make lots of different drinks with these three items.
