That's a matter of individual choice. Still, it is probably unrealistic.

Most people don't "plan" on having sex, it happens. This is why safe sex should always be practiced, and both men and women should have condoms ready and avoid unsafe practices.

Still it would be safer for both partners to get tested before having sex. I do know of some cases where that has happenned, but it is not the rule.

I would be safer to get tested first but as the previous answer said that sometimes people don't plan on having sex it just happens. that's why it's always important to "wrap it up".
